About G7
G7 is the IDEAlliance Specification that formally defines process controls for the components of an image that define its “visual appearance” to the human eye. G7 breaks from tradition by focusing on the gray balance (neutrality) of an image rather than dot gain as the basis for defining the metrics of visual similarity. G7 also provides control for the tonality of an image using an innovation that we call the Neutral Print Density Curve. The G7 Specification provides:
