Industry Loses Gegenheimer, Schaffer
The commercial printing industry lost a pair of pioneers this week with the passing of Harold Gegenheimer and Irving Schaffer. Mr. Gegenheimer, 95, whose sheet reversing innovation made a major impact on sheetfed printing, was the chairman emeritus of Baldwin Technology Co. Mr. Schaffer, 96, an accomplished craftsman and master woodworker, was a founder of Case Paper.
Mr. Schaffer died of natural causes at his home in Scarsdale, NY, according to Case Paper’s Keith Goldberg. “The man was strong. He willed himself to do what he wanted,” Goldberg noted of Mr. Schaffer.
Mr. Gegenheimer enjoyed a long career in the printing industry and was active in many of its associations. NPES: The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies, created two service awards in his name.
