Muller Martini brought the concept of selective binding to Japan, demonstrating booklet manufacture by varying a color-paper mix for staggered run brochures.
On the fourth day of IGAS, some 400+ Japanese printers packed the conference hall of the nearby Meridien Hotel to hear about "Strategies for the Future" from American printer Jim Wicklander, of Wicklander Printing in Chicago. The event was staged by Heidelberg Japan and offered insights into planning and motivation inside a medium-sized offset printer (with seven sheetfed machines, all from Heidelberg).
