Japs-Olson Goes on Spending Spree
CHICAGO—Want an indication that printers are starting to loosen their purse strings? Look no further than Japs-Olson Co., of St. Louis Park, MN, for proof.
The Minnesota printer placed an order at Graph Expo here for an end-to-end digital printing solution, including print heads, presses and consumables, all manufactured by Kodak. The purchase includes multiple Prosper S10 imprinting systems; multiple NexPress SE3000 digital production color presses with Print Genius; a Digimaster EX150 digital production system; the InSite storefront system; and a multi-year contract for Kodak Trillian SP plates.
Japs-Olson also signed on for a new eight-unit Goss Sunday 2000 web press that will be configured for highly automated direct mail production. The new gapless Sunday press acquisition, also announced during Graph Expo, will be equipped with Goss Autoplate fully automatic plate changing and Automatic Transfer technologies, which will allow four-color job changes to be completed without stopping the press.
Japs-Olson’s new press will also interface with an in-line finishing system. Goss International will supply a Contiweb splicer, Ecocool dryer and its Goss Omnicon control system.
Installation will begin at the Japs-Olson facility in mid-2011. The press will complement an existing eight-unit Sunday 2000 press with Automatic Transfer capabilities that was installed in 2007.
