JDF & CIM -- Issues Are Not so CIMple

Some printers are already envisioning new opportunities for software programs to automatically generate alternatives based on parameters such as a plant's capabilities, paper stock inventories, etc. Adjustments that optimize a piece for production or optional upgrades could be suggested in a fashion not unlike how online airline reservation systems offer ticketing options based on number of connections, departure times, carrier, etc.
