JDF & CIM -- Issues Are Not so CIMple

The real payoff, Romano says, is in the broader concept of CIM, which the industry already has been adapting variations of for years—without JDF.

"Competitive workflows, such as CIP3/PPF, already work. True, they do not do all of what JDF promises, but they automate a major part of the production workflow and provide a tangible benefit," he argues. "A digital printer with online binding can take a file and produce a finished product in one automated system, and can do that without JDF."
