It was in 1817 that German inventors Friedrich Koenig and Andreas Bauer bought the Oberzell Monastery near Würzburg and began development of steam-powered printing presses. Koenig and Bauer are the “K” and the “B” of the company that we know 200 years later as KBA (Booth 213).
“To celebrate our 200th anniversary, KBA will be welcoming customers to our booth to share in our special homemade brats and delicious German beer,” says Eric Frank, Senior Vice President of Marketing at KBA North America.
As for equipment, KBA is featuring its broad portfolio of products, especially for the commercial and packaging markets. Booth visitors can take part in KBA’s new interactive display to learn about increasing their productivity and maximizing efficiency with KBA equipment and technology.
As recent rsearch conducted by I.T. Strategies and PRIMIR has found, LED-UV-curing ink is a growing technology.
UV inks cure or dry when exposed to ultraviolet light. For decades, UV-curing required mercury-vapor lamps, but LED-UV curing is a low-energy drying technology that replaces those traditional mercury-vapor lamp with LEDs (light-emitting diodes) that deliver numerous benefits, including low energy consumption, low temperature, high print quality, and the ability to stand out on critical uncoated and offset stock with sharp dots and high color brilliance. The LED-UV-curing process is also said to be environmentally friendly since it consumes less energy than other UV-curing technologies.
“One of the biggest trends in the industry is the explosive rise in popularity of LED-UV,” says Frank. “KBA has demonstrated that it is an expert in this field, and we will be discussing new LED-UV technology in the market, including KBA’s new VariDry LED-UV.”
KBA’s research and development team in Germany, along with its ink partners, have successfully integrated this instant cure-to-print technology as a modular, interchangeable LED-UV curing platform into its press line, and is able to offer highly knowledgeable assistance to its current and prospective customers to immediately capitalize on LED-UV’s many advantages and benefits.
