KBA, System Brunner to Debut New Color Quality Measurement and Control System #Ipex

DALLAS—April 22, 2010—KBA North America, a global press manufacturer based in, is partnering with System Brunner, the global market leader in process control, color control, quality assurance and standardization, to create a unique inline measurement and control system that guarantees optimum color fidelity in sheetfed presses. This new system now combines KBA’s density-based inline QualiTronic Color Control with the full-scale version of System Brunner’s Instrument Flight inking unit control software, which prioritizes grey balance values and creates a closed-loop system for measuring and controlling color during the press run. It even assesses the visual appearance of every printed sheet, thus promoting stable, uniform production from one day to the next and from one press to another.

The new system will make its debut on the popular high-tech KBA Rapida 106 41-inch sheetfed press at the KBA booth at Ipex 2010 international trade fair from May 18-25 in Birmingham, England. Following the premier in England, the new system will be available for mid-size format presses later this summer in the United States and small- to large-format presses later in the year.

KBA QualiTronic Color Control with Instrument Flight offers Rapida sheetfed press operators additional options for expanding process automation to support high-quality color fidelity, which has a positive impact on production waste, cost-efficiencies – and the loyalty of quality-focussed customers.

Instrument Flight inking-unit control software has become adopted the world over thanks to its underlying logic of prioritizing grey balance values. Multi-dimensional color adjustments are made based on over 30 measured process variables in order to compensate for the process dynamics of offset printing. This maintains the balance – and thus consistency – in the printed image and compliance with international standards such as System Brunner’s own Globalstandard and ISO 12647-2.
