Kingery Printing Selects Kodak Solutions for Integrated Workflow
ROCHESTER, NY—August 28—Paul Mersman, the prepress manager at Kingery Printing in Effingham, IL, reports “an almost phenomenal increase” in efficiency since creating a customized workflow with the Kodak Prinergy Connect workflow management system. Designed to automate business planning and prepress processes, Kingery Printing’s integrated workflow includes Kodak solutions for production planning, online job collaboration and monitor proofing, as well as equipment for CTP and proofing.
“The improved speed is critical to our operation. Productivity throughout our operation has increased by 30 percent to 50 percent since switching to a Kodak workflow system,” said Mersman. “Plus, the Kodak Trendsetter platesetters are rock solid pieces of equipment. They’ve been extremely reliable and we recently added a second unit to increase our output.”
Kingery Printing President John Kingery said the migration to Kodak solutions started about a year and a half ago when he was exposed to the latest online collaboration and monitor proofing technologies.
“Kodak InSite software allows us to schedule jobs much more effectively using the Web and is a major time savings tool for our business,” Kingery said. “We’re saving significant time since adding monitor proofing capabilities. It used to take two to three days to overnight proofs back and forth to customers to get the necessary approvals. Now we can get approvals within hours and keep work moving. We had made a $60,000 investment in software the year before, but after seeing the advantages of the InSite solution, we decided it was well worth it to make the change.”
Kingery Printing has been in business since 1968. The firm’s 165 employees handle a variety of commercial printing assignments, including advertising, small publications, point of purchase materials and direct marketing. As a result of the success in working with Kodak, M&D Printing in Henry, Ill., a division of Kingery Printing, is now in the process of switching over to Prinergy and the other Kodak solutions.
“Printing is an extremely deadline oriented business,” said Mike Flack, Kingery Printing’s Systems Manager. “The time frames we deal with get tighter and tighter. The only way we can make it happen is by using Kodak workflow and remote proofing systems to speed along the process. Another benefit of this kind of automation is that we’ve literally been able to save our customers thousands of dollars on jobs. It’s helped us attract business.”
Kodak Prinergy workflow systems are complete, modular and scalable PDF based workflow solutions that allow users to easily customize and optimize their workflow. They deliver intelligent automation, optimized production management, and flexible integration options for unprecedented speed, quality and control in production. Kodak Prinergy software uses Job Definition Format (JDF), Adobe software compliant Job Tickets (PJTF), Job Ticket Processors (JTP), and Rules Based Automation to control and automate workflow tasks.
In addition to the Prinergy Connect system, over the past several months Kingery Printing added:
Kodak InSite software to streamline the processes of job submission, job status tracking, online collaboration, and remote proofing or approval. InSite is an Internet portal into the Kodak Brisque and Kodak Prinergy prepress system environments. From any Web enabled computer in any location at any time, customers, prepress operators, and customer service representatives can manage and track job activity, proof print jobs online, collaborate with creative and prepress staff on changes, and approve work.
Kodak Matchprint Virtual software for InSite proofing software, which allows print buyers to view proofs on calibrated monitors at different locations with consistent and accurate color. This SWOP certified solution reduces job cycle time by providing consistent color management across multi monitor system configurations, ensuring effective real time collaboration with accurate color viewing, saving on the costs of making and shipping multiple proofs.
Kodak PressProof software to extend the benefits of monitor proofing to the pressroom. PressProof software employs SWOP certified Kodak Matchprint Virtual Proofing technology to provide accurate and consistent color guidance by displaying a proof for viewing on qualified LCD monitors. PressProof software allows press operators to view the same color accurate proof viewed by agencies, designers, prepress professionals, publishers, and others involved in the creative and print production processes.
Kodak Upfront production planning software, which improves productivity by replacing the old method of manually folding paper and drawing layouts. With UPFRONT software, production planners can automatically produce accurate job layouts and digital templates ready for imposition. They can also export cutting, folding and binding data directly to the finishing department. Every job is saved in a database so that future projects can be delivered even more quickly.
Kodak Veris digital proofer, based on Kodak developed Multi Drop Array imaging technology to precisely steer ink droplets for true 1500 x 1500 dpi addressability at production speeds. The resulting drop placement accuracy, superior four dimensional (4D) color calibration and consistent, quality controlled consumables are what allow the Veris proofer to deliver excellent color consistency proof to proof and machine to machine. The VERIS proofer is ICC compliant and connects to most popular prepress and design applications.
Kodak equipment used by Kingery Printing includes two Trendsetter platesetters with Kodak Thermal Gold printing plates and a Kodak Approval XP digital color imaging system.
