Kodak Prosper S20 Imprinting System with CMYK to be Shown as Technology Demonstration
ROCHESTER, NY—Sept. 8—The Kodak Prosper S20 Imprinting System with CMYK is at GRAPH EXPO 2011 and features breakthrough speeds of up to 2,000 fpm/610 mpm at 600x300 dpi. The full-color imprinting system delivers fast, offset-class variable data applications, produced inline with web offset presses and finishing equipment. It’s ideal for publication market applications such as commercial inserts, versioned ads in magazines and newspapers, and commercial direct marketing, all while leveraging and complementing existing offset printing and finishing equipment.
The system will be on display as a technology demonstration in the Adphos booth (#2518) at McCormick Place South during the September 11-14 show.
Kodak Prosper S-Series with CMYK customers use the specialty printing capabilities of offset—including metallic inks, heavy color saturation, scratch-off coatings, and other specialty inks—to create high-value shells that can then be customized with process color digital printing inline at production speeds. This revenue-generating capability opens new opportunities with one of the most cost-effective and uniquely efficient hybrid digital color solutions on the market.
Current Prosper S10 Imprinting System with CMYK customers will have the option of upgrading to the new, faster system by leveraging their current transport without any changes in integration. Many Kodak customers around the globe are achieving hybrid printing success with Prosper S-Series Imprinting Systems.
“Cost has always been the Achilles heel of high-volume variable data printing. However, our Kodak Prosper S10 System with CMYK adds an incremental cost increase of only 10-15 percent over the cost of offset and adds 10 percent variable information,” said John Hornby, Chief Executive, Lettershop. “The solution is significantly more economical and effective than a full white paper solution. We’ve always had a strong Litho operation, and it was natural to mount the Kodak Prosper S10 System heads to our finishing line.”
Hornby continued, “The first objections from customers are—we can’t afford digital, and the quality will not be good enough. Interestingly enough, when we put an S10 digitally produced hybrid piece in front of customers, they believe it was all produced with litho, until we actually point it out to them.”

The Prosper S20 Imprinting System with CMYK has flexible mounting options and can seamlessly integrate with web offset presses and web finishing lines using a variety of third-party printing towers. This enables the addition of variable data to offset printed materials at a resolution of 600 x 300 dpi. With a print width of 4.16˝/10.56 cm. and pigment-based process color inks that offer fade, scratch, and water resistance, the Prosper S20 Imprinting System with CMYK increases throughput and eliminates the need for additional standalone equipment.
“The Kodak Prosper S10 and S20 Imprinting Systems with CMYK are a tremendous way to increase response rates and ROMI in direct marketing applications while utilizing a legacy offset infrastructure,” said Vince Ferraro, Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, Digital Printing Solutions, Kodak. “Kodak is the only company currently capable of delivering this high-value inline solution.”
The unprecedented hybrid capability of the Prosper S20 Imprinting System with CMYK only gets better when paired with Kodak’s industry leading offset solutions of digital plates and output devices. Kodak is currently the only supplier capable of providing and servicing, a fully integrated offset and digital hybrid solution for our customers. Kodak’s proven offset technologies provide customers with high fidelity and consistent imaging, cost effective and easy to use operations, and on press robustness and performance that allows customers to enhance the quality of their printed piece while improving productivity, efficiency and ultimately cost.
Both the Kodak Prosper S10 and S20 Imprinting Systems with CMYK will be demonstrated during GRAPH EXPO 2011, which is held in Chicago from Sept. 11-14. For more information about Kodak’s exhibits at GRAPH EXPO, please visit www.kodak.com/go/graphexpo.
