Kodak Reports Q2 Loss, Expects Improved Second Half of 2009
* The company’s second-quarter loss from continuing operations, before interest expense, other income (charges), net, and income taxes was $119 million, compared with earnings on the same basis of $18 million in the year-ago quarter.
On the basis of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the company reported a second-quarter loss from continuing operations of $191 million, or $0.71 per share, compared with earnings on the same basis of $200 million, or $0.66 per share, in the year-ago period. Items of net expense that impacted comparability in the second quarter of 2009 totaled $75 million after tax, or $0.28 per share, primarily related to restructuring charges and tax related items. Items of net benefit that impacted comparability in the second quarter of 2008, totaled $245 million after tax, or $0.79 per share, due primarily to a tax refund from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
