Kodak Unified Workflow Solutions Help J.S. McCarthy Increase Efficiency
ROCHESTER, NY—Nov. 21, 2012—Driven by its commitment to top-notch customer service, technological innovation and print quality, J.S. McCarthy Printers relies on Kodak Unified Workflow Solutions to drive results in all three areas. Using a combination of workflow, proofing and CTP solutions from Kodak, the Maine-based printer has increased efficiency, delivered superior print quality and strengthened client relationships.
With five offices throughout the Northeast, J.S. McCarthy utilizes Kodak Prinergy Connect Workflow with Rules-Based Automation to integrate geographically dispersed operations into a single, highly automated, production workflow.
“We’ve got to do everything we can to keep our costs down as we continue to grow our business,” said Roger Schutte, Director of Product Technology for J.S. McCarthy. “We need to remove touches. We need to process jobs faster, cheaper and immediately. Kodak’s workflow solutions help us do that by streamlining and automating the production process.”
Winner of the first-ever MUST SEE ’EMS Legacy Award at Graph Expo 2012, Prinergy Workflow is the system of choice for powerful file preflighting, color management, trapping, and imposition—as well as flexible device connectivity, customizable automation and database-driven production management. It also supports the advanced 20-micron Kodak Staccato Screening that J.S. McCarthy uses as its baseline to deliver the consistent, high-impact print that clients have come to expect.
To provide its nationally dispersed client base with fast, secure and easy-to-use access to its prepress workflow, J.S. McCarthy relies on the KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System with KODAK Matchprint Virtual Technology. Clients can submit, manage, proof and approve projects over the Internet, saving substantial time and costs during the prepress stage. The instant a job is submitted through the Insite System, preflight and refining automatically begin in the Prinergy Workflow.
“We do everything we can to move work through the building as quickly as possible,” Schutte said. “Quite often, we’re already imposing the job while customers are approving corrections, and making plates within hours of when they uploaded the job.”
On the front end, J.S. McCarthy’s automated workflow and highly trained personnel help prevent errors from making their way further downstream. In the pressroom, operators have access to color-accurate monitor proofs using Kodak Pressproof Software, which allows proofs to be loaded at actual size for comparison with press samples, providing fast, efficient, and accurate color guidance. The system enables operators to work with complete surfaces rather than individual pages or elements and helps J.S. McCarthy deliver on clients’ color expectations.
J.S. McCarthy Printers has seen continuous growth and competitive success over the last 60 years. The Augusta, Maine-based printer has expanded to five locations, including New York City; Boston; Portland, ME; and Hartford, CT. The company offers a full range of imaging, printing, binding, finishing and fulfillment capabilities for markets including higher education, card and stationery, corporate sales and marketing, advertising and fine art.
