KōHN Creative Expects to Increase Profitability with Versafire EP Digital Press
KōHN Creative, a full service graphic design, web design, and digital marketing firm located in Westminster, Md., recently installed Heidelberg’s Versafire EP to become more competitive in the short-run digital market.
Increased Capabilities and Better Total Cost of Ownership
“We’re a marketing firm first and foremost. It’s our goal to solve all of our customers’ marketing needs, so we look at the whole picture – not just a single solution,” said Josh Kohn, President of KōHN Creative. “With our previous production capabilities, it was hard for us to be competitive in the short-run, 4-color market due to our limited capabilities and the high cost to run our previous digital press. When I was introduced to the Versafire, I found a press that could make our print shop profitable again.”
Since installed in January, KōHN Creative is now able to offer more capabilities to their customers thanks to the Versafire EP’s ability to print up to 13x49˝ sheets and support 24-point stock plus a variety of synthetics. According to Kohn, “Compared to what we were previously doing, this press is phenomenal. We’ve already run a couple of jobs with 3-panel 8.5x11˝ brochures, and we’re so happy with the outcome.”
Due to the advanced technology on the Versafire EP, KōHN Creative has been able to decrease their click rate costs by 50%. One unique technology found on the digital press is the automatic high-precision inline registration, which actively controls every sheet so that they are steered and adjusted automatically. Thanks to inline finishing, no intermediate steps are required and touch points are greatly reduced.
Additionally, the inline sensor on the Versafire EP color calibrates the engine automatically by measuring the registration target, feeding it back in the machine, and setting it up — making this press simple to use for all printers.
An Industry-Leading Press
Alongside the advanced technology and increased capabilities of the press, KōHN Creative is also excited for its energy efficiency. According to Kohn, “Our previous press had a huge air conditioning unit that needed to run 24/7 so that the toner wouldn’t be clumpy in the morning, which was using a lot of electricity. One of the traits of the Versafire EP that stood out to us was that we are able to shut off our Versafire at night without worry. In the morning, we turn it on, and the Versafire is ready to run, which is a huge money-saver.”
Printing with an image quality resolution of 4,800 x 2,400 dpi and a new toner formula, the Versafire EP exceeds the challenging expectations of KōHN Creative’s customers, while also maintaining high throughput and reliable production.
According to Kohn, “Every time something comes off the press, I’m always completely amazed with the quality – it looks exactly like lithography! That’s the difference between Heidelberg and other competitive manufacturers – Heidelberg understands the value of quality in the print world. I don’t look at the Versafire EP as a digital press, but I look at it as an industry-leading press.”
