Komori Highlights Waste Reduction and Increased Profitability

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL—08/20/2009—At PRINT 09, visitors to the Komori stand (#1245) will see how Komori helps them stay ahead of the competition by reducing waste and improving profitability. The three machines on display in the 12,600 square foot space include the newest addition to the Lithrone S family, the Lithrone SX40; the half size dynamo, the Lithrone SX29 and for the first time in a US exhibition, the five color Spica 29 convertible perfector press. The star of the Komori stand will be Komori’s revolutionary KHS-AI, the ultimate quality control tool that improves productivity and significantly reduces waste.

KHS-AI: The key to profitability

Komori’s KHS-AI software is designed to significantly reduce waste, especially critical in today’s economic climate. This intelligent software is continually learning the conditions of the press to keep it operating at peak efficiency.

One of the keys to reducing waste is more consistent first pull accuracy. Komori incorporates self learning into inking by intensely integrating the spectrophotometer with the console. When color deviates from standard, the scanner automatically updates the inking program to compensate for the deviations on the next job. This feature keeps the inking accuracy in “like new” condition. Self learning is also applied to the air settings throughout the press. The AI technology can save air settings with a specific job and can also use learned air settings on jobs that have never been run. AI also presets register, including skewing and fanout, before a single sheet is wasted. This eliminates repetitious register moves and automatically increases efficiency and reduces waste. With its Smart Sequence and Smart Feedback features, KHS-AI further eliminates downtime between jobs and speeds on the fly density changes. Komori will demonstrate this elegant new software on the LSX40 and LSX29 and also on a freestanding press console in the DoNet area.

The LSX40: The latest evolution of Komori’s award winning LS platform

The LSX40 is the premier press in the Komori Lithrone S-Series line-up. With a maximum running speed of 18,000 impressions per hour and a larger sheet size of 29x41, this workhorse is ideal for busy pressrooms handling a wide variety of substrates and run lengths. The Lithrone SX40 is equipped with higher speed, fully automatic platechanging with nonstop plate removal to speed job to job changeover, changing six plates in just two minutes.

The LSX40 has been enhanced from feeder through delivery for precise sheet stability and print quality and is also equipped with Komori’s High Speed Start function. The press starts feeding at 12,000 sheets per hour and allows the press to be close to ink and water balance before the first pull, dramatically reducing makeready waste. At the heart of the LSX40 is Komori’s brand of artificial intelligence KHS-AI that dramatically reduces waste and provides ultimate color control from job to job and shift to shift.

The LSX29: Advanced Technology for Fast Job Cycle Time

Komori will highlight the fast job cycle time and ease of use of the KHS-AI equipped Lithrone SX29 in four daily demonstrations. To show just how fast the job cycle time really is, the first demonstration of each day will be a non-stop 60 minute press run of 200 sheet jobs.

“Since Graph Expo 2007 we’ve been demonstrating the press in this fashion,” says Schardt. “Visitors are constantly amazed at how quickly we can get jobs on and off the press. The productivity of this machine just simply can’t be beat.”

The other demonstrations will highlight the versatility of the SX29, and will feature packaging, specialty and general commercial types of work. The LSX29 can also be equipped with a variety of specialty processes including inline foiling, embossing and die-cutting. Samples will be on hand to show the value added advantages of these features.

The Spica 29P: Economical, small footprint convertible perfector

Making its US exhibition debut is the five color Spica 29 convertible perfector, the ideal machine for printers entering the multicolor marketplace or as a complementary press in larger format shops to handle overflow work. Geared toward short-run, fast turnaround jobs, the economical, easy to operate Spica 29P provides the high print quality inherent in the Komori brand.

The stand will also feature display areas for a variety of Komori products and services. On display will be a Komori-Chambon sleeve offset unit, the revolutionary new design at the core of the new Offset Sleeve (OS) Series of packaging presses that offers easy and economical variable-repeat capability. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about Komori web presses as well as Komori’s remarketed machines. KomoriKare service staff will be on hand to discuss many of Komori’s newest service offerings.

Komori Digital Workflow

In the DoNet area, Komori will demonstrate their JDF integration tool, K-Station. K-Station works with the printer’s job management system to provide a bi-directional interface, moving digital data throughout the entire production process. Visitors to the DoNet area will be able to preview Komori’s latest version of KStation. Demonstrations on Komori’s new AI software will also be conducted in the DoNet area. In addition, Komori will also launch their newest color measurement device at PRINT 09. This new technology allows you to place the color bar anywhere on the sheet to maximize the print area from lead to tail, and further reduce waste.
