L+L in San Diego Adds HP Indigo 10000 to Expand into Larger-Format Digital Printing
PALO ALTO, CA—May 7, 2014—HP today announced that L+L Cos. installed an HP Indigo 10000 digital press to offer its customers larger-format, high-quality digital printing with variable data and increased production efficiency.
Building on its 55-year history in traditional printing, San Diego-based L+L Cos. is aggressively expanding its digital printing capabilities with its HP Indigo 10000 digital press installation and recent digital print service provider (PSP) acquisitions. The company, which also operates an HP Indigo 7600 digital press, invested in the press to increase capacity for complex variable data-driven products, while providing customers new oversized application options enabled by the press’ 29" format, including short-run booklets and catalogs with folded signatures.
“Customers recognized the added value of personalization enabled by our digital presses as well as the advantage of the larger format provided by our traditional presses, but meeting both specifications was a challenge,” said Joel Green, president of marketing and sales, L+L Cos. “The HP Indigo 10000 digital press will help us manufacture highly-personalized commercial print applications in various sizes, allowing us to better serve our customers’ needs and capture new business.”
Increasing efficiency with the HP Indigo 10000 digital press
In addition to enhancing its production offerings, L+L Cos. seeks to increase production efficiency by transferring its short-run, larger-format work to the HP Indigo 10000 digital press. This transition will decrease waste and make-ready time, as well as free up capacity for longer runs more suitable for its traditional offset presses.
“When our customers requested larger-dimension, short-run jobs, we had to run the jobs on our offset equipment because of the size, even if it wasn’t very profitable due to make-ready costs,” noted Green. “The HP Indigo 10000 digital press allows us to transfer this work from the offset presses, making these projects more efficient and cost effective.”
The press will also help L+L Cos. manage the steady stream of orders from its more than 100 Web-to-print storefronts, providing clients the high-quality work they expect with even faster turnaround times.
“Print providers need to address shorter run lengths, just-in-time production requests and increased versioning to be competitive and help meet customers’ needs,” relayed Yishai Amir, vice president and general manager, Americas Graphics Solutions Business, HP. “The HP Indigo 10000 digital press will offer L+L Cos. the opportunity to pursue new jobs that could not be produced on their previous technology while seamlessly connecting their analog and digital capabilities.”
