L & D Mail Masters Increases Production with Second Screen Truepress Jet520 Unit
ROLLING MEADOWS, IL—February 24, 2014—L & D Mail Masters installed the Screen Truepress Jet520 inkjet web press in 2012 to boost its digital production capacity and deliver high-volume projects in less time. The direct marketing firm has seen a dramatic uptick in demand for full-color variable printing.
“As a result of adopting the Truepress Jet520, we are witnessing many opportunities for new job growth and for transferring existing color and black-and-white print products from toner-based devices onto the high-speed inkjet platform,” said Diane Fischer, president. “Customers want us to add color to statement printing and apply two-dimensional barcodes to products while we are printing them. Of course, they all want us to push jobs out the door faster.”
Now with the addition, in January 2014, of a second Truepress Jet520 unit, L & D Mail Masters can flex its inkjet muscles.
“We had built up our business to the point where it was necessary to improve our capacity again,” Fischer noted. “We already had purchased two Pitney Bowes high-speed inserters to accommodate greater mail volume. The second Truepress unit gives us the printing resources we need and the speed our customers are asking for. We can print 11x17" magazines, which is something we could not do before.”
Founded in 1986, L & D Mail Masters has evolved from a home-based small business into a $25 million firm that offers direct mail production, creative design, statement processing, interactive online services, and advertising specialty and promotional products. The company operates in three buildings totaling 180,000 square feet of production and storage space in New Albany, IN. Its client base, at about 2,500, includes a wide range of nationwide accounts in the insurance, financial services, higher education and health care industries. The pace of these customers’ work is accelerating.
The Truepress Jet520 provides the added value of personalized digital printing with the cost-effectiveness of high-volume print. Screen’s EQUIOS workflow system enhances automation, efficiency and profitability. EQUIOS drives the front end of the Truepress Jet520 and allows full variable data printing.
The Truepress Jet520 creates smooth color tones and sharp text at the maximum speed of 420-feet-per-minute on standard paper, newsprint, coated and uncoated inkjet media, and even peel-off postcards.
“Some of the 60-pound and 80-pound gloss-coated stocks have proven very successful for four-color self-mailers,” Fischer added.
The four-color press with a dual engine prints both sides of the paper at the full web width of 20.4".
“We immediately doubled our speed from 11,000 8½x11" duplex pages per hour to 22,000 duplex pages per hour,” Fischer said. “Upgrades currently being made to the inline cutter and sheet transport system will enable us to further ramp up hourly production to 44,000 pages in the duplex mode. We believe we can attract more work from the larger insurance companies and financial services providers.”
