Las Vegas Color Graphics Offsets Its Carbon Footprint Via Reforestation
LAS VEGAS—Oct. 18, 2010—Las Vegas Color Graphics (LVCG), Nevada’s largest privately owned, full-service printing company, has signed a carbon offset agreement with Patagonia Sur, a leading conservation company in Patagonia, Chile that helps forward-thinking firms incorporate sustainability initiatives into their operational and marketing plans.
An estimated 20% of greenhouse gas emissions, the leading cause of climate change, is attributable to deforestation. Reforestation, by contrast, provides a myriad of environmental and social benefits, including habitat for biodiversity, water conservation, and sustainable, long-term jobs. On behalf of Las Vegas Color Graphics, Patagonia Sur will plant, maintain and monitor more than 10 acres of native-species trees in Patagonia, Chile.
“LVCG is excited to partner with Patagonia Sur,” states Heidi Bridges, President of Las Vegas Color Graphics. “The nearly four million pounds of carbon emissions we are offsetting with Patagonia Sur neutralize all of the emissions our operations generate in a year. In addition, we are partnering with Patagonia Sur to develop a methodology to allow our customers to offset the carbon emissions produced by the delivery of their printed products. We view our initiative with Patagonia Sur as a ‘triple win’ for Las Vegas Color Graphics, our valued customers, and the environment.”
Las Vegas Color Graphics is taking a notable leadership position within the printing industry by deepening its commitment to sustainability. According to Divya Mankikar, Patagonia Sur’s General Manager of Carbon Offsets, “Las Vegas Color Graphics is setting an example as a firm that looks at sustainability from multiple lenses across its operations. I am inspired to be working with a company that values the services forests provide and has internalized the effects of their operations on the environment.”
