Layar, Fry Communications on Augmented Reality (Webinar)
PHILADELPHIA—July, 17, 2013—The definition and history of Augmented Reality (AR), the tools that are available in the market to begin leveraging this technology, and its implications for print, were among the topics discussed in this week's Webinar, "Augmented Reality: Making Print Interactive." Hosted by Printing Impressions and sponsored by Canon Solutions America, the Webinar drew more than 800 registrants from across the globe. The presenters were Maarten Lens-FitzGerald, co-founder and U.S. general manager, Layar; and Alan Snyder, Fry DPSG, Fry Communications in Mechanicsburg, PA. The Webinar was moderated by Barbara Pellow, group director at InfoTrends.
Pellow presented some interesting facts on this interactive technology. "Incorporating Augmented Reality elements within mobile applications is predicted to generate nearly 1.4 billion annual downloads of such apps worldwide by 2015." She also provided several examples of how companies are leveraging this platform.
Lens-FitzGerald gave an overview of his firm, Layar, the world's largest mobile Augmented Reality and interactive print platform, with 33 million downloads and more than 50,000 marketers and publishers registered. Clients include Condé Nast, Meredith, Hearst, North American Publishing Co., Dwell Inc., Playboy and more.
Snyder also highlighted the opportunities and implementation of Augmented Reality at Fry Communications, from a print service provider's (PSP) perspective.
