Lehigh Phoenix Expanding Its Facility in Hagerstown, MD
HAGERSTOWN, MD—Jan. 6, 2012—Lehigh Phoenix, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Visant Corp., has announced the expansion of its state-of-the-art complex based here. The company, which originally relocated to Washington County in 1992, is a leading provider of book components and short run books for the trade and educational publishing segments.
The expansion will add 28,000 square feet to the existing 180,000-square-foot facility. According to Lehigh Phoenix, these improvements will accommodate additional equipment and capabilities into the Hagerstown location, facilitating the production of heavily illustrated, multicolor and other short-run books. Production capabilities will be relocated from Lehigh’s facility in Rockaway, NJ, with the expansion and transition from Rockaway expected to be completed by mid-April.
The project received “Fast Track” designation for plan review and permitting from Washington County officials. Timothy R. Troxell, executive director of the county’s Economic Development Commission, stated, “The recent resurgence in manufacturing is a good sign for our local economy. Having great companies like Lehigh Phoenix further invest in our community speaks volumes about our pro-business environment.”
“Lehigh Phoenix’s decision to expand and add jobs speaks volumes about the highly-skilled workforce, strategic location and supportive business climate that Maryland and Washington County offer to companies,” added DBED Secretary Christian S. Johansson. “We were particularly pleased to work with our partners in Washington County to support this project, which will bring additional jobs to Hagerstown and help grow the local economy.”
