Digital printing is not just an effective way to print short book runs. It’s a disruptive technology that is changing the economics of the book publishing business. To reap the rewards of digital printing, it’s crucial for book publishers to consider the lifecycle cost of a book instead of the traditional per-unit cost and scrutinize capital locked up in warehousing and wasted on returns. Yes, the per-unit cost of printing a book digitally may be higher, but having fewer books warehoused, remaindered, and eventually pulped saves publishers a significant amount of money.
Macmillan COO Ken Brooks will dive into this topic at the Digital Book Printing Conference on November 17th in New York City during a keynote session titled “How Digital Printing Is Altering the Economics of Book Publishing,” that will be hosted by Printing Impressions' sister publication Book Business.
Brooks is very familiar with this topic. In his current role at Macmillan, Brooks oversees development and production of textbooks and learning materials, and prior to that he oversaw manufacturing and supply chain at McGraw-Hill Education and Cengage Learning. During this session Brooks will explain the revenue benefits of digital book printing and detail the organizational changes publishers need to make to better implement this technology.
The Digital Book Printing Conference is a one-day event that will attract 150 book publishers, manufacturers, and equipment suppliers to learn more about digital book printing opportunities and trends. Now in it’s third year, the conference has expanded to include book publisher- and manufacturer-specific sessions. Attendees can expect to hear from printing and procurement experts, industry analysts, and book publishers that are optimizing their book production and distribution with digital printing and workflow technology. Check out the full agenda here.
Also new for 2016, the Digital Book Printing Conference will be a free, invite-only event. If you are interested in attending, please fill out the following inquiry form and a member of our team will be in touch.
