Digital Press Eases Move to Cross-Media Marketing
CARTHAGENA, OH—The transition to integrated marketing, variable data and larger sheet sizes were all deciding factors The Messenger Press used in choosing an MGI Meteor DP60 Pro press and Petratto MiniBat 2 in-line channel scoring system for its pressroom. The additions allow the printing, finishing and fulfillment services provider to offer a wider assortment of products ranging from window clings, synthetic paper door hangers, short-run pocket folders and full-color envelopes to personalized pieces using variable data software.
Wholesale Print Shop Adds Pair of Presses to Augment Pressroom
FARMINGDALE, NY—All Color Offset Printers, a wholesale shop serving the local and regional trade, recently installed a pair of Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46-2s. The new presses join two Speedmaster SM 52 perfectors and a Speedmaster SM 74 already on the shop floor. Established in 1959, All Color employs 25 people and has annual sales revenues of around $5 million.

LOS ANGELES—Web-to-print specialist UPrinting.com has added a five-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S sheetfed press with aqueous coater to provide quick job turnarounds.
PASADENA—Castle Press was recently recognized in the Los Angeles Business Journal’s listing of the Top 100 Women-owned Businesses in Los Angeles County, ranked by revenue. Castle Press is led by Susan Kinney.
GEORGIA
DOUGLAS—The Douglas Enterprise, a paper owned by the Natchitoches Times, recently upgraded from a film-based to computer-to-plate workflow by adding a Kodak Trendsetter News thermal platesetter with PF-N non-process plates, Prinergy EVO workflow and PREPS imposition software.
HAWAII
HONOLULU—HONBLUE Inc., based here, has installed a Heidelberg Suprasetter A52 thermal platesetter with Prinect hybrid screening at its Electric Pencil commercial printing division as part of a move to upgrade its prepress system and advance the company’s ongoing green initiative. The chemistry-free Suprasetter is imaging Saphira Chemfree plates.
ILLINOIS
EFFINGHAM—Heatset web and large-format sheetfed printer Kingery Printing has purchased a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 equipped with Anicolor inking technology.
KANKAKEE—The Kankakee Daily Journal, part of the Small Newspaper Group, has moved to Agfa’s Advantage N-SL violet platesetter and N92-VCF (violet chem-free) plates.
KANSAS
FT. SCOTT—Ennis Inc. has acquired an MGI Meteor DP60 Pro digital press for its facility here. Ennis expects the multi-substrate press to uncover more printing opportunities, such as plastic gift, loyalty and security cards.
KENTUCKY
CRESTVIEW HILLS—The University of Cincinnati’s Goering Center for Family and Private Business recently honored the Flottman Co. as the 2010 Tri-State Family Business of the Year (50-plus years in business).
MASSACHUSETTS
ANDOVER—Preparing to print the majority of its work digitally, Reid Graphics recently purchased an HP Indigo WS6000 digital press, allowing the converter to retire three flexo presses and an older Indigo Omnius digital press.
MICHIGAN
MACOMB—A specialty printer of presentation folders and related products, Admore Inc. recently bought a Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46-2 to replace its existing, nine-year-old QM 46-2, which had logged more than 75 million impressions.
NEW JERSEY
BELLMAWR—Publication printer Evergreen Printing has chosen Technique’s MIS and production scheduling systems to improve internal communication and workflow efficiencies at its plant here.
CLIFTON—Sandy Alexander has entered the grand-format segment by acquiring a pair of Rho UV inkjet production digital printers from Durst. One unit is a 98˝-wide Rho 900 for rigid substrates, while the other is a 5m-wide Rho 500R for soft media.

NEW YORK CITY—The Copy Room has installed two Xerox Color 800 presses to boost its turnaround times and attract new customers.
STATEN ISLAND—Creative Media has acquired a Canon imagePRESS 6000 digital press and DesignMerge software to add digital color and variable data capabilities to its existing design, offset printing, print management and mail services.
NORTH CAROLINA
GREENSBORO—Keller Crescent, a pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging supplier now owned by the Clondalkin Group, is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
PENNSYLVANIA
SCRANTON—As part of a multi-site equipment and plate deal, Times-Shamrock Communications decided to upgrade and automate by selecting Agfa’s Advantage N-SL CTP systems and N91V plates. The media organization operates in 10 states, with 42 small- to mid-size printing properties, 17 radio stations and a distribution company.
TEXAS
DALLAS—After imaging 25,669 40˝ plates in just six days earlier this year, Taylor Publishing was honored by executives from Kodak and xpedx at Graph Expo last month for its achievement. The yearbook publisher uses Kodak Trendsetter 800V platesetters, Trendsetter News platesetters and Sword plates, all managed by a Prinergy workflow for its plate production.
