Metzgers Announces Four Promotions as Joe Metzger Takes Leave of Absence
TOLEDO, OH—Dec. 16, 2011—Joe Metzger announced that he will step down as president of Metzgers while he begins a battle with colon cancer.
“I’ve been a cancer survivor for 22 years, so I’m ready for this next fight, and we expect to win, again. It’s what we do,” Metzger said. He plans be on leave from the company for two months and fully expects to return to Metzgers in a reduced capacity to help the leadership team continue to grow, strengthen and improve the company.
The following promotions and assignments have been announced.
John Luscombe is promoted to vice president and will serve as interim-president while Metzger is away. As vice president, Luscombe will work closely with Tom Metzger and the leadership and management teams to continue Metzgers’ culture and success. He will also continue serving as account manager to his key accounts and business development.
Luscombe joined Metzgers in 1992 after graduating from the University of Findlay where he played tennis and attained a degree in public relations.
Todd Beringer has been named vice president of sales & marketing, after serving as account manager for many years. Beringer will continue all of his account manager and sales duties, yet also be responsible for new business development, sales leadership and marketing initiatives for Metzgers.
Beringer received a degree from the University of Toledo in sales and marketing. He put himself through college by running the copy center at Metzgers as he began his career with the family business when he was 18 years old.
Eric Leslie has been promoted to chief technology officer (CTO) after serving as IT manager for many years. As CTO, Leslie will be responsible for discovery, investigation, acquisition and deployment of all things related to technology. Metzgers offers many technological services that help clients reduce their marketing spend while improving internal communications and reducing cycle times between facilities, franchises and locations.
Leslie works closely with clients to facilitate learning, understanding and deployment as well as the Metzgers IT staff, outside consultants and programmers. He began his Metzgers career by completing his senior project from St. John’s Jesuit High School. Leslie attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and studied Print Management.
Andrea Ohrt, CPA steps up to chief financial officer of Metzgers and all related Metzger companies. Ohrt started at Metzgers in 1995 and had a belief of working “five years and out” to better advance herself. While at Metzgers, she not only advanced herself, but attained her goal, earning a degree and CPA license while working full-time and raising two boys.
Ohrt has a BA in accounting from the University of Toledo and achieved the CPA license in 2001. She also developed the financial department at Metzgers with the addition of Roni Hedger as accounts payable and receivable, and has managed the finances as the company has grown from $2 million in sales to $14 million in sales with her at the financial helm.
Tom Metzger continues as CEO and has taken on the title of chairman. He oversees all things production related, as well as facilities. This past year, Tom and Joe have been working on the purchase of a third building at 150 Arco Dr., which will be used for warehouse and distribution services as well as future growth & incubator opportunities for the Metzgers companies.
