MELBOURNE, Fla. — May 23, 2016 — MGI Digital Technology has received the first “Leadership in Innovation Award” ever issued by the internationally respected DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation Program.
“As a result of ground-breaking, cutting-edge excellence in the packaging marketplace, judges awarded a new 'Leadership in Innovation Award' to MGI. The MGI entry was noteworthy due to its future forward approach to digital package decoration,” says David Luttenberger, CPP, Global Packaging Director, Mintel Group Ltd. USA, in the official press release issued by DuPont.
MGI CEO Statement
MGI CEO Edmond Abergel thanked the DuPont Packaging Award Judges by saying, “On behalf of all MGI’s employees and shareholders, we are truly proud to receive the wonderful distinction of receiving the first 'Leadership in Innovation Award' ever granted by this renowned organization. We are honored that the hard-working MGI R&D, Product Development and Technical Support Teams have achieved this unique accolade for making an important contribution to the digital future of the packaging and label industry.”
DuPont Judges Announcement
The jury panel of expert packaging judges from around the world recognized MGI for its "3D digital package decoration process that uses digital spot UV and hot foiling technology for next-generation digital package decoration, with advancements in customization, personalization and cost-effectiveness,” according to the press announcement issued by DuPont.
The DuPont Packaging Awards Program issued a public announcement via their website that “MGI is the recipient of the 'Leadership in Innovation Award' in the 28th DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. MGI’s digital spot UV and hot foiling technology offers the ability to produce personalized embossed foil and decorative special effects via variable data and can be produced on runs ranging from one to 100,000 with the same setup.”
The Rise of Digital Package Decoration
DuPont’s announcement also stated, “Digital packaging has catapulted to the forefront of decoration methods for its ability to offer personalization and customization, and it is on the cusp of emerging as a cost-effective alternative to flexo, gravure, and offset for short, medium, and extended runs. Requiring no screens and no dies, MGI’s innovation gives brand owners the opportunity to cost-effectively add enhanced graphics to labels, cartons, or even printed collateral in both an on-demand and variable data manner.
“This technology allows regular 2D spot UV varnish coats, 3D embossed textured effects and variable data embossed foils all to be printed on the same machine in one pass. It represents the next-generation of digital package decoration at a time when most digital print technologies are focused on general print quality.”
The digital package decoration process invented by MGI and recognized by the DuPont Packaging Awards program is a part of all of the growing JETvarnish 3D/iFOIL product family of packaging and label solutions, including: the original B2-size JETvarnish 3D/iFOIL; the world’s first B1+ size digital enhancement press, the JETvarnish 3D Evolution; the world’s first web-fed digital label enhancement press, the JETvarnish 3D W; and the new Meteor Unlimited Colors product series.
