MIT’s robotics scientists aren’t just playing in the sand. They have a vision for the future where you will be able walk into a store like Kinko’s and design and print your own custom made robot. Yes, you read that right, print out your own custom robot, using something like a standard paper inkjet or laser printer.
MIT has already designed several prototypes of its new robotics manufacturing system, including an “insect”-like design, a robotic grabber arm and a robotic fish.
The idea is good enough to have won a $10 million, five-year grant from the National Science Foundation.
