Mitsubishi and Ironstone Media Corp. Hosted Web Printing Event in Ontario
PICKERING, ONT—05/10/07—Lincolnshire, Ill.-based Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses and Ironstone Media Corp. co-hosted a series of web offset technology demonstrations to coincide with Offset and Beyond 07.
Billed as “New Technology Opening New Worlds,” the event took place on April 30, May 1 and May 2, at Ironstone Media’s Pickering, Ont., production facility. The three special demonstrations showcased the Mitsubishi Diamond 16 MAX-M commercial web press.
Guests represented a range of printing operations. They learned how the five-unit, one-web Diamond 16 MAX-M is helping Ironstone Media’s Web Offset Publications division enhance an already solid reputation in the Canadian publication printing arena.
Presentations and live print demonstrations provided practical applications to complement the business opportunities, trends and other issues related to offset processes that were being covered in sessions at the Offset and Beyond conference.
Visitors to Ironstone Media/Web Offset Publications had an opportunity to meet key managers and pressroom personnel responsible for operation of the Diamond 16 MAX-M.
Ironstone Media specializes in cross-media distribution of information through traditional printing, online publications and digital products and services.
Originally founded as a newspaper printer, Web Offset Publications provides full-service production of diverse print products for the private and public sectors using state-of-the-art technology. Web Offset Publications equipped the Diamond 16 MAX-M with a sheeter and a pinless combination folder with single chopper. The press features a 22 3/4-inch cutoff and a 38-inch web width. The press is designed to produce tabloids, magazines, digests and flat sheets at a maximum operational speed of 1,800 feet per minute. It incorporates mini-gap technology in both the plate and blanket cylinders and utilizes metal-backed blankets.
The Diamond 16 MAX-M offers such features as Semi-Automatic Plate Changers, closed-loop color and register, shaftless drives and the MAX-Saver software package. All of these features help keep waste down and enable faster makereadies. A complete makeready on the five-unit press can be accomplished in less than 15 minutes.
