Moquin Press Installing a VUTEk Printer from Heidelberg to Enter Grand-Format Market
KENNESAW, GA—Nov. 29, 2012—Moquin Press, an $11 million trade printer in Belmont, CA, recently placed an order for an EFI VUTEk GS3250 LX LED grand-format UV digital inkjet printer, supplied by Heidelberg. The new flatbed and roll-to-roll device, which also boasts color management by Heidelberg, will extend Moquin’s traditional print quality and service into the grand-format space, and enable the company to function as a one-stop shop for its customers.
Once installed, the new machine will become the centerpiece of the company’s new, grand-format department, which will be housed in a refurbished Quonset hut affectionately dubbed, “The Hangar.” The VUTEk GS3250 LX LED will greatly expand the services available for Moquin’s digital clients. Installation will take place in early 2013.
More Options, Greater Flexibility
“We are eager to participate in the growing market for grand-format printing,” said Greg Moquin, president. “The VUTEk GS3250LX LED gives us the most flexibility in the marketplace and the ability to offer a staggering range of options to our customers, who no longer have to go elsewhere for grand-format work. Best of all, by purchasing the machine through Heidelberg, we also gain access to Heidelberg’s outstanding service and support teams.”
Moquin’s new VUTEk machine will feature color management via Prinect Color Toolbox, Heidelberg’s color management suite for secure, reliable color calibration, regardless of platform.
Color Management by Heidelberg
“When it comes to coordinated campaigns printed on multiple devices, color management by Heidelberg will enable us to demonstrate a degree of expertise that will be of considerable added value to our creative and design customers,” Moquin said. “We have color management by Heidelberg on all of our equipment.”
As a California printer, compliance with the state’s stringent air-quality standards is an ongoing priority for Moquin, which selected the GS3250LX in no small part because of its minimal environmental impact. The grand-format device offers a greener print solution with no VOCs, uses fewer consumables, and reduces waste. By the same token, the machine’s cold-cure LED technology means lower energy consumption and the ability to print on recycled and other materials without warping or head strikes.
Focus on Packaging
While customer demand will dictate the myriad uses of the VUTEk machine, “we already have significant packaging expertise,” Moquin said. “We expect to take full advantage of the VUTEk’s speed and versatility in the production of packaging samples and prototypes (for example), as well as for large production runs.”
Since 1988, Moquin Press has furnished Bay Area printers, print brokers, in-house print shops and designers with specialty printing, diecutting, foil stamping and finishing capabilities. The company operates two Speedmaster XL 105 presses, and a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74, as well as three programmable POLAR cutters, a pair of continuous-feed Stahlfolders, and a Diana X115 Auto folder/gluer. The company employs a staff of 105.
