2015 Gold Ink Awards Entry: The Wynn's New Year's Eve Invitation Is All About the Diecuts, Foil Effects
PHILADELPHIA—May 8, 2015—At Las Vegas Color Graphics, creating complex invitations is a speciality, and the company has become very adapt at handling a variety of creative challenges that Las Vegas designers have thrown its way. So when Tracy Grinnell, general manager, and his staff were tasked with creating a 2015 New Year's Eve Package for the Wynn with a print run of 2,000 in one week—it was just another day on the job.
The end result, titled "Wynn," was entered into the Gold Ink Awards competition in the Invitations category. The five-piece package, which includes an invitation, holder, ticket, envelope and luggage tag, was created to entice guests to attend the Wynn's New Year's Eve celebration that included an elegant menu, mouth-watering selections and a night of dancing.
What makes this piece standout are the foil effects, color selections and diecuts. For the menu component, the stocks used for the 9" circle was Neenah Classic Crest and Solar White Stipple, printed with black ink on a Heidelberg GTO press. It was then hot-foil stamped with Crown 100 silver foil and Crown 590 purple foil, and diecut on a Heidelberg Cylinder SBG.
The 10 3/4" circle is Silver Mirror Splendorlux stock, and was foiled stamped with Crown 590, and then diecut on a Heidelberg Cylinder SBG. The 13" circle was created with Purple Neenah So Silk, and cold-glue laminated by hand to 50-pt. black Lamitech chipboard. All foiling was done on a Kluge EHD press, and the diecutting was also completed on the Kluge EHD and a Heidelberg cylinder SBG.
"After the multiple passes of litho print, letterpress foils and diecutting, we hand tipped on circles using laser diecut templates to ensure accurate positioning," said Grinnell.
The invitations, holders, tickets, envelopes and luggage tags, each followed the same printing and foiling processes. The assembly of the holder and envelope were also completed by hand.
"The multiple stocks, layers and processes needed to create this package all came together in the period of about week," concludes Grinnell. "The time factor here in Las Vegas is always an exciting challenge. Meeting that kind of hard deadline is our specialty."
