TRUMBULL, CT—February 23, 2009—Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, announced that one of the world's largest commercial and book printers--Quebecor World, Inc.—has enhanced its book publishing infrastructure with an Océ VarioStream® 9210 continuous feed printing system, along with Océ PRISMAproduction™ software and Lasermax® pre- and post-processing systems. The monochrome and color-capable digital printer is used in the Dubuque, Iowa facility to generate books in cost- effective short runs for some of the world's premier book publishers. The company selected the Océ VarioStream 9000 platform to improve image quality, uptime, and operational efficiencies.

Today, Quebecor World's Dubuque digital production line runs three shifts, 24 hours a day, five days a week, with average run lengths ranging from 200 to 400 books. With the Océ equipment, Quebecor World is positioned to capitalize on the growing digital book printing opportunity and produce books faster, in shorter runs, with excellent image quality and superior quality halftones. The printing systems in the Dubuque plant primarily produce textbooks for leading educational publishers that demand sophisticated versioning capabilities, speed to market and excellent quality. Created specifically for high-volume, speed-intensive single-pass duplex applications, the Océ VarioStream 9210 digital printer will enable Quebecor World to provide customers with dramatically enhanced graphic and halftone quality and will help Quebecor World achieve growth objectives that require high-quality, reliable, digital short-run publishing. Print volumes on the Océ VarioStream systems are expected to exceed 16 million pages per month.
The Océ VarioStream 9210 digital book printing configuration includes a Graphic Arts Controller, Océ PRISMAproduction POD software to enable a smooth efficient workflow and Océ TrueProof® software to enable convenient online proofing.

Océ GraphicArts™ dot modulation technology produces output with outstanding halftone quality at a speed of 852 letter-size images per minute, 1/1 simplex or 1,562 6x9 inch images per minute, three-up.
