Arandell Produces Its First FSC-Certified, 100% Postconsumer Catalog for Apparel Company Patagonia
MENOMONEE FALLS, WI—August 26, 2014—Arandell Corp. has produced its first FSC certified 100 percent post-consumer catalog for Patagonia. Through its work with Patagonia, Arandell is protecting the community and reducing the environmental footprint of printed catalogs by utilizing a premium 100 percent recycled paper.
Patagonia has an extensive history of being stewards for the environment but has previously printed on 30 percent post-consumer paper because its high quality of standards couldn’t be achieved with 100 percent PCW stock. The company’s Alpine Fall 2014 catalog, which recently hit the market, was produced on a Roland Enviro 100 Satin sheet made by Cascades. The catalog features an 80-lb. cover and 50-lb. body that is Ecologo and Processed Chlorine Free accredited and is manufactured using renewable biogas energy. Working with Patagonia’s color provider, Cascade’s paper technical team and Patagonia’s own creative team, Arandell was able to produce an outstanding catalog that captures both the product color reproduction and the feel that Patagonia wanted to create.
According to the Environmental Paper Network Paper Calculator using Roland paper compared to 30 percent post-consumer waste fiber Patagonia had previously used saved the following:
- 536 tons of wood
- 1,698 billion BTUs of energy
- 1,456,101 gallons of water
- 205,902 pounds of solid waste
“When listening to the needs of our clients, it became important to create a solution that would fit their printing requirements with environmental and sustainable initiatives,” stated Tom Benedict, vice president, New Business Development. “By integrating recycled paper with standard printing applications, this process will attract customers with added eco-friendly awareness and impact savings on our environment.”
Arandell has always taken its environmental responsibility seriously. “We understood long ago that being an eco-friendly neighbor is good business and a crucial part of our corporate mission. Arandell has always been on the cutting edge of ecologically preferred methods of turning hazardous problems into productive uses, conserving resources and protecting the environment through green printing practices,” affirmed Brad Hoffman, president and CFO.
