SEWICKLEY, PA—November 17, 2006—The officers of Printing Industries of America, Inc./Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) for the next year were installed in office November 12, 2006 at PIA/GATF’s Fall Administrative meetings. The ceremony took place following the nomination and election of the officers slate by the Board of Directors.
Dave DeLana, President of Heritage Press, Oklahoma City, OK, was elected Chairman of the Board. A PIA/GATF board member since 1996, DeLana has spent six years on the Budget and Finance Committee as well as previously serving as chair of the Presidents Conference Committee. Also active in his affiliate, PIA MidAmerica, he served eight years on the board of its predecessor, PIA of Oklahoma, including a stint as chair. Also a past president of the El Reno (OK) Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation, DeLana was honored as Oklahoma’s Small Businessman of the Year in 1983. A tireless volunteer in his community, he sits on the boards of Parkview Hospital and Oklahoma Prevent Blindness since 1992 and 1995, respectively.
In his address following his installation, DeLana called the affiliates “the backbone of the organization.” He noted that while many organizations face a number of challenges, he expressed confidence in the expertise, creativity and desire of PIA/GATF to continue to succeed.
Janet Green, CEO of Greens Inc., CA, serves as 1st Vice-Chairman. An active participant in local and national association work, Green is a past chairman of the board of Printing Industries of Southern California (PIASC), as well as a national board member of long-standing. She has also served on numerous committees at the national level and a member of task forces charged with reviewing key PIA/GATF programs, including the headquarters consolidation project. Green is also the current Chair of the Association Relations Committee. Greens, Inc. is a printing company in business since 1908; Ms. Green is the third generation to helm the company. In 2004, she was named PIASC Executive of the Year.
Ken Kaufman, Chairman/CEO of Omniprint, Inc., Lanham, MD, was elected 2nd Vice Chairman. A long-standing member of both affiliate and national boards, Kaufman currently serves on the Board of Directors for Printing and Graphics Association MidAtlantic (PGAMA) as well as its predecessor, the Print & Graphic Communications Association (PGCA). He served as President of PGCA and is currently a member of the board for GABC.
Bill Gibson, Vice President of Rider Dickerson, Chicago, IL, serves as Secretary for the 2007 Board. After graduating from college, Bill worked for the Iowa Newspapers until he joined the family firm, Gibson Graphics, Inc. Begun by his grandfather in 1908, Bill was the third generation to helm the company, serving as President from 1982 until 1998. Rider Dickerson purchased Gibson Graphics, Inc. in 1998. Today, Bill is Vice President of Sales. Bill currently chairs PIA/GATF’s Presidents Conference Advisory Committee, which oversees the development, promotion, and presentation of the top annual program designed for senior executives. He is also active in his affiliate, Printing Industries of Illinois and Indiana, having served on their board and is currently president of the Ben Franklin Club of Chicago.
Hal Slager of Trico Graphics, Inc., Chicago, IL, continues as Treasurer. A Certified Public Accountant by training, Slager has spent over 20 years with Trico Graphics. Founded as Triangle Engraving Company in 1915, the company evolved to focus on sales and marketing support services, with Slager as a driving force in advancing the company into electronic publishing. Slager also serves his community as a Town Councilman in Schererville, IN and is a director for the Calumet Region Striders, a local running club of 500 members.
Joining the PIA/GATF Executive Committee are Laura Lawton-Forsyth, Lawton Printing Inc., Spokane, WA, and Margaret Baumhauer, CAE, Graphic Arts Association, Trevose, PA. Ms. Lawton-Forsyth joins the Executive Committee in her role as Chair of the Education Committee, and Ms. Baumhauer joins in her role as Chair of the PIA/GATF Affiliates.
Also joining the Board of Directors beginning in 2007 are Mark Levin, Sun Chemical, as a supplier representative; Calvin Butler, of RR Donnelley, as a Director At-Large; Larry Winkler, of MillBrook Printing Company, representing PI of Michigan; and Nick Wagner, Printing Industries of Michigan, as one of the PIA/GATF affiliate representatives.
