Portland’s Premier Press Installs Komori Lithrone S40P Press

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL—May 31, 2011—Komori America, a premier manufacturer of sheetfed and web offset printing presses, has installed an eight-color, 40" Komori Lithrone perfecting press with UV capabilities at Premier Press in Portland, OR. The new press features Komori’s advanced KHS-AI self-learning technology designed to trim makeready time to a minimum, optimize productivity and reduce waste, while at the same time ensuring the high level image quality that Premier’s clients have come to expect. The press replaces a 10-year-old 40" Komori six-color.

Founded in 1974, family-owned Premier Press is a long-time Komori customer and prides itself on taking advantage of the latest in print technology to serve its broad and diverse regional customer base. The new LS840P offers the printer single-pass perfecting, which enables it to cut on-press production time in half for two-sided work. The press’ KHS-AI management system reduces makeready times by enabling automatic presetting of register and color matching that permits the press to reliably attain target densities within 20 sheets at start-up. It is also equipped with UV that helps reduce marking and adds the ability for special effects coatings.

“We produce a large amount of four-color work that’s printed on two sides, and the turnaround times that our customers require continue to shrink. We decided one way to satisfy these fast turnaround times is to go with a perfector,” said Chris Feryn, president of Premier Press. “Some printers focus on the speed of the press. However, we think that the focus should be on how to ensure the makeready is quick. The LS840P press not only reduces our makeready times, it shortens the printing process from start to finish. This capability was definitely a determining factor in our selection of this press.”
