WASHINGTON—May 29, 2015—On May 27, negotiations on a new labor contract between the United States Postal Service and the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO (APWU) came to an impasse. The parties will continue to follow the current agreement until a new contract is reached through the dispute resolution process.
The APWU represents more than 196,000 employees who work as clerks, mechanics, vehicle drivers, custodians and in some administrative positions.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
