D'Andrea Graphic Communications Installs Eco-Eagle Cold Foil System
LOS ANGELES—Jan. 16, 2013—Graphic Art Systems, a U.S.-based developer and manufacturer of foil enhancement equipment, announced it has completed the installation of an Eco-Eagle cold foil system at D'Andrea Graphic Communications (DGC). Located in western Los Angeles, DGC is a 25-employee boutique print shop with an intimate connection to clients, offering creative printing and complete marketing services.
Though the company serves a growing international clientele, its focus is on the elite companies in Southern California, including large advertising and design agencies, entertainment companies, movie studios, record producers, DVD production and distribution firms, as well as major automobile marketers.
In early December, DGC installed an Eagle inline cold foil system on its eight-color, 40˝ Komori UV press, furthering the company’s investment in new technology. The Eagle system not only increases the services and solutions offered to clients, it enables DGC to print a silver film material inline and overprint process and spot colors to achieve a full spectrum of true metallic colors.
“This new technology will allow our customers to take advantage of the versatility and cost savings cold foil provides,” according to David D’Andrea, president.
“We looked at several options, but Eagle offers a reliable and superior production tool,” added General Manager Carson Ladd. “And Graphic Arts Systems stands behind its system. Its president, Mike King, took the time to visit our operation, tailored the system to meet our production specifications, and installed the Eagle system so it’s seamless with our Komori press.
“In addition, Graphic Arts Systems will support the system with a lifetime of updates at no additional cost to us, ensuring we will always have all the latest bells and whistles. And the Eagle system is so user friendly, we’re already fully up to speed after less than a month.”
The Eco-Eagle Cold Foil System
The Eco-Eagle system is a value-added finishing tool for cold foil applications. The add-on system can be retrofit to new or existing 28˝ up to 80˝ sheetfed offset presses from most major press manufacturers. It offers users the flexibility to apply a single 40˝ width of foil or multiple widths of foil, in any combination, as narrow as 2˝. This ability greatly reduces foil cost and consumption.
In addition, the system operates on about the same amount of electricity as a 1,500 watt hair dryer, reducing energy demands in production environments.
Spot or overall foil coverage is printed in-line and then overprinted at standard press speeds. The process uses standard printing plates and features setup times of less than 10 minutes. Eco-Eagle is completely automated, thereby eliminating the human interface and operator/machine intervention.
