Robert Hart has joined Mail-Well, Englewood, CO, as CEO and president of Mail-Well Envelope. Prior to joining Mail-Well, Hart spent more than 30 years with Atlanta-based Riverwood International. He most recently served as senior vice president of the $600 million paperboard operation.
Mark P. Correia, vice president of manufacturing for Target Graphics, Boonton, NJ, has earned the designation of Certified Production Management Executive from the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) Management Institute. The NAPL Management Institute conducts industry-specific management certification courses taught by graduate-level university professors and industry experts at Northwestern University.
Randolph W. Camp has been elected as the 101st chairman of Printing Industries of America. As PIA chairman, Camp now oversees the direction and activities of the 14,000-plus member association. Camp is currently the CEO of Walton Graphic Media. Warren D. Wilkins, PIA's departing chairman, remains on the board's executive committee in an ex-officio, non-voting capacity. In other PIA news, Charles Stay, president and CEO of Bert-Co Industries, Los Angeles, was named the first vice chairman. Michael Marcian, president and CEO of Corporate Press, Landover, MA, was elected second vice chairman. Harry R. Duncanson, Dynacolor Graphics, became vice chairman for governmental affairs. Joe Polanco, president of PIA of Texas, was elected affiliate managers representative and will serve on the executive committee. Both Eileen Hall, American National Ltd., Miami, and Gene D. Scott, Pony X Press, Reynoldsburg, OH, were elected new members of the executive committee for regions two and three, respectively. In addition to the new leadership, the PIA board welcomed newcomers Ed Saturn, Seven Worldwide, New York; Kenneth A. Kaufman, Omniprint Inc., Lanham, MA; William Gibson, Gibson Graphics; Bradley L. Thompson, Inland Press, Detroit; and Kevin Runbeck, Runbeck Graphics, Phoenix. The Canadian Printing Industries Association's representative to the PIA board will be Tom Blockberger, Broadway Printers, Vancouver. Also joining the board are the associate member's director Michael S. Murphy, Sun Chemical, Northlake, IL, and MPA committee representative Robert L. McNaughton, McNaughton & Gunn, Saline, MI.
Telepress, located in Issaquah, WA, has announced the promotions of Roger Woodward to vice president of production, and Brian Smith to vice president of sales and marketing. Woodward brings 13 years of experience working in all phases of Telepress operations. Woodward's responsibilities include management of the Telepress production facilities located in Issaquah, Kent, WA, and Atlanta. Smith joined the company a year ago as the director of sales and marketing after 10 years in sales and general management for a major envelope manufacturer.
The Graphic Arts Technical Foundation has welcomed Frank C. Scott as its new vice president and director of research. He now oversees the research department that includes the Bassemir Ink and Kronenberg Paper Labs, chemistry lab and Preucil Print Analysis Lab, as well as GATF's quality control group. Previously, Scott served as the director of digital development at Time Inc.
Dale G. Kalina, Ph.D, is the recipient of the 2000 William D. Schaeffer Environmental Award. After six years at Argonne National Laboratory, Kalina joined R.R. Donnelley & Sons in 1985. In addition to Kalina's responsibilities as director, EHS regulatory affairs and due diligence for Donnelley, he has devoted extraordinary amounts of personal time toward issues on behalf of the printing industry. He has been involved in environmental issues affecting printers for more than 12 years and is a key player in representing the printing industry during the development of regulations and major policy initiatives.
Deborah Joiner Robertson and Darla Dobbie have joined Dallas-based Padgett Printing as sales representatives. Robertson has more than 20 years of experience in the printing industry. She joins Padgett from Buchanan Visual Communications, where she was a sales representative for four years. Dobbie brings nine years of experience in the printing industry to her new post at Padgett. She was most recently an account executive with XYAN.com in Dallas.
Kirby J. Taylor has been appointed president and COO for Champion Industries, Huntington, WV. Taylor has served as an executive for several major corporations during his 30-plus years in business.
Baltimore-based Victor Graphics has made a number of management appointments. Thomas V. Hicks has been named vice president of sales. John Beall has assumed the newly created role of mid-Atlantic/southeastern sales manager. David Lepard has joined Victor as the company's bindery manager and Kim Bradley has established a regional southeastern sales office in Atlanta.
Domenick Propati has been appointed COO of New York-based Photobition. In his new role, Propati is responsible for the operational running of the Photobition U.S. Graphics network. The U.S. network is comprised of 20 locations and more than 1,500 employees.
Jeffrey Charnota has joined Coyle Print Group, Northfield, IL, as the firm's vice president of production. Charnota was most recently vice president and director of operations at Walter Latham Direct Marketing & Advertising.
Printgraphics, headquartered in Vandalia, OH, has announced several staff changes. Tom Sabath has been named vice president/controller. Sabath oversees all finance and accounting activities for both the Ohio and Iowa facilities, and human resources functions. Randy Stoeffler has been promoted to the sales group at the Iowa facility. Chris Lyons has been named vice president of operations. Lyons oversees manufacturing in both the Ohio and Iowa facilities.
