STONE MOUNTAIN, GA—Atlanta Web Printers has opened its second facility, located in Tucker, GA. Along with the physical expansion of its facilities, the publication printer has also restructured the management team.
Jerry Williamson, CEO of Williamson Printing, Dallas, has been named the Graphic Arts Leaders of the Americas (GALA) North American award recipient for 2004 by the Printing Association of Florida. He received his award before hundreds of industry leaders and guests at the 21st annual GALA awards banquet during Graphics of the America 2004 in Miami Beach.
F.E. Treis, Arandell Corp. chairman, was recently honored for 60 years of leadership at the company. Treis joined the former R&L Printing, a sheetfed commercial printer, on January 1, 1944, as a sales representative. He acquired the business in 1949, changed its name to the phonetically spelled Arandell and became its chairman. Under Treis' leadership, Arandell grew from a Milwaukee- and Chicago-area printer to a national firm and acquired E.F. Schmidt, a web offset printer, in 1981. Today, Arandell has grown into a printer with 660 employees and sales of more than $250 million. The family tradition continues under Treis' sons, Donald, Arandell CEO; James, executive vice president of sales/marketing; and David, vice president/general manager.
Houston-based Rasch Graphic Services promoted Mark Rasch to vice president. He has been with the company for more than 10 years, most recently overseeing purchasing, estimating and human resources. Rasch Graphic Services is a full-service book bindery.
Five industry professionals will be honored at the 17th annual Partnership in Print Production (P3) Luminaire Awards Dinner, scheduled for March 24 at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The honorees include Michael Esposito, production director, Hachette Filipacchi Media; Neil O'Callaghan, senior vice president of operations and technology, AGTSeven; Linda Rice, vice president, editorial business manager, Condé Nast Publications; Michele Unger, vice president and director of graphic services, Grey Worldwide; and Nina Wintringham, vice president of marketing, Quebecor World.
Banta Corp. announced that Kevin Ambrose, general manager of Banta Direct Marketing-Chicago, and Chuck Weber, general manager of Banta Direct Marketing-Minneapolis, have both been promoted to the additional position of vice president. As vice president and general manager, they will continue to have overall operational responsibility for their respective printing facilities. In addition, David Winter has been appointed vice president of systems development at Banta.
Hi-Liter Graphics of Burlington, WI, has added Jim Curran and Christopher Moase to its staff as account executives. Curran works out of a new sales office in Detroit, and Moase works out of a new sales office in Madison, WI.
Randy Ritter is the newest member of the sales team at Dallas-based Padgett Printing. He comes to Padgett from Sandford Cos. where he was plant manager and worked in sales.
Printing Industries Association of Southern California (PIASC) announced the selection of Janet Green, Greens Inc., as the recipient of the Ben Franklin Award; Timothy Krupa, Atlas Broadband, the Gutenberg Award; and Dr. Harvey Levenson, California Polytechnic State University, the Jack Simich Award. The awards were presented at the Graphics Gala on February 28 at the Pacific Palms in Industry Hills, CA.
The Worldwide Printing Thermo-graphers Association (WPT) has announced the winners of its sixth annual Excellence in Thermography Contest—the FREDDIEs. Anderberg-Lund Printing, St. Louis Park, MN, won the 2003 Fred Nicotera Award for "Best of the Best" for Excellence in Thermographed Products Other Than Business Cards, Letterheads or Invitations. Perfect Plastic Printing, St. Charles, IL, has named Mike Fox as its new executive director of manufacturing.
MetroGroup Corp., based in Lincoln, NE, reports that Ken Garvey has joined the company as CFO. Most recently he served as vice president of finance with Hunter Douglas National Accounts Group.
Quad/Graphics has named Thomas Frankowski to the newly created position of senior vice president of manufacturing. In this role, Frankowski now directs print production across all divisions and plants. A 24-year veteran of Quad/Graphics, Frankowski has focused his entire career on developing the company's imaging operations, most recently serving as vice president of imaging operations.
Arbor Press, Royal Oak, MI, recently created a COO position within the company. Gene Toepfer, who has 30 years of marketing and printing experience, has been appointed to fill the role.
Book manufacturer D.B. Hess Co., Woodstock, IL, has hired Mark Mindrum as its new vice president of sales and marketing. Mindrum joins the company after an extensive career with Wallace Computer Services. James Sula also has joined D.B. Hess as vice president of finance.
EU Services, a full-service printing and direct mail communications service provider located in Rockville, MD, announced two recent additions to its sales department. Brian Jones, local representative, brings more than six years of sales experience to the company. Bob Rotchford has more than 28 years of graphic arts and direct marketing experience, and will represent EU Services in the New England region.
Heidelberg Digital Imaging Association (HDIA) has appointed Valery LaClaw, director of digital print technologies at C-t-PLUS of Menomonee Falls, WI, to the HDIA Board. The position opened when a significant Williamson Printing corporate re-assignment resulted in Craig Landers' resignation after two and a half years. Landers said that, as a result, he felt he no longer would be in a position to be of active service to HDIA.
Joel Salzman has been promoted to vice president of sales at Sussex, WI-based Color Ink. Salzman has 17 years of experience in the printing industry and has been with Color Ink since 2000. Previously, Salzman held positions in regional and national sales for direct marketing firms in southeastern Wisconsin.
Solar Communications has named Robert Lambert vice president of sales. Lambert has spent more than 20 years in direct marketing, and also has an extensive background in the consumer packaged goods industry.
