CHICAGO—Minuteman Press International has been recognized as A.B.Dick's Customer of the Year for 2002. Minuteman Press has more than 750 franchises operating in the U.S. and almost 900 worldwide.
Sue Nisson has assumed the responsibilities of national sales manager for Webcrafters Inc., Madison, WI. Nisson joined Webcrafters in 2002 as executive director of business development after 20 years in the educational publishing industry.
Richard Sevigny, president and owner of Chromatic Lithographers, has been named the 2003 Ben Franklin Executive of the Year by the Printing Industries Association of Southern California. The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to both their company and the printing industry.
Matt Launius has joined the St. Louis-based Nies/Artcraft sales staff. Launius has 20 years of experience in commercial printing in the areas of estimating and project management.
Robert Tapella has been named deputy chief of staff at the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), in Washington, DC. He comes to the GPO following several assignments on Capitol Hill. Also, Judith Russell is the new superintendent of documents at the GPO. She is the 22nd superintendent and the first woman to hold the post. Previously, Russell served as deputy director of the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science.
Stephen Hare has been promoted to president of the Publisher Services Group for Cadmus Communications, Richmond, VA. Previously, Hare was the company's executive vice president and CFO. In addition, Paul Suijk has joined Cadmus as senior vice president and CFO. Suijk was most recently senior vice president and CFO of Comdial Corp.
K/P Corp. recently added two new sales representatives—Rick Hess and Eric Snip—and a program manager, Michelle Gil, to its Northwest region sales and account services team.
Kevin Barrett has been appointed as the new customer service manager for Walton Press, Monroe, GA. Previously, Barrett was the operations manager at Quebecor World's Oakwood, GA, division.
Daniel Rapp has been named New York sales manager for Highresolution, New York City. Rapp has more than 25 years of production and sales experience.
Bob Metzger is the new director of business development for The International Center for Entrepreneurial Development (ICED). ICED is the parent company of Kwik Kopy Printing. Metzger, a printing industry consultant, is the former owner of a commercial printing business in Ohio, and has held many positions with printing companies, from sales and marketing to production management.
Carl Motheral, 76, chairman of Motheral Printing, Fort Worth, TX, has died. Mr. Motheral was part of the second generation to run the family owned printing business that his father and mother, Fitzhugh and Ella Motheral, started in 1934. He took over its management after his father's death in 1964. Mr. Motheral retained the title of chairman when he retired four years ago. His son, Jim, succeeded him as president. In addition to his wife, Sally, survivors include two sons, Jim and Bill; a daughter, Susan; a brother, Foist; and three grandchildren.
Harry Tolen has joined the Chicago-based Segerdahl Corp. sales team. Tolen brings 17 years of web printing experience to the company.
Aart Knyff has been promoted to vice president and director of operations for Cathedral Corp., Rome, NY. Knyff began as a production supervisor for the company. He was later named general manager of the Lincoln, RI, facility in 1997, and then vice president of technology in 1999.
Bowne & Co., New York, has appointed Reed Smith as president of its Financial Print unit and a senior vice president of the parent company. Smith has been president of Bowne Financial Print's Eastern region since 2000 and his previous day-to-day responsibilities are being assumed by Bowne International President William Penders as part of the consolidation of the Eastern region with Bowne International. Matteo LaMuraglia, currently senior vice president and sales director of Financial Print's Eastern region, will assume that title for the entire business unit.
TechBooks, of Fairfax, VA, has announced key changes to the company. TechBooks' Educational Publishing Group will operate as The GTS Companies. It is being headed by John Jaensch and Gloria Fontana, who serve as CEO and president, respectively. Gurvinder Batra has been appointed president of TechBooks' Professional Publishing Group. He now heads the division with Anita Gupta, TechBooks co-founder and senior vice president of sales. Also, TechBooks' Corporate Publishing Group has changed its name to the Information Publishing Group to reflect the diversity of its clientele. In a parallel move, Iris Hanney has been promoted to the position of group president. Hanney joined TechBooks in 2002 as senior vice president of sales.
Chuck Kissick, president and COO of Colorfx in Urbandale, IA, has been named the 2003 Iowa Distinguished Printer of the Year by the Printing Industries of the Midlands.
Lexington, NC-based Green Printing & Packaging has appointed Kristine Lauten as controller. Green is a wholly owned subsidiary of Chesapeake Corp.
George Lestina, owner of PIC Graphics, is the new chairperson for Printing Industries of St. Louis. Other board officers include: Liz Pecha-Poelker, Fleming Promotional Graphics, as vice chairperson; Jonathan Niezing, Wrap-Ups, as secretary; John Bell, The Ovid Bell Press, as treasurer; and Kevin Kohler, Kohler & Sons, as immediate past chairperson.
Edward Conolly has joined Rochester, NY-based Monroe Litho as an account sales representative for the metro New York area.
