Prism Award Event Promotes NYU Program
NEW YORK CITY—More than 400 people turned out recently for the 21st annual Prism Award luncheon, held to raise money and awareness for New York University’s graphic communications program. This year’s Prism honor went to Richard Smith, editor-in-chief and CEO of Newsweek. The Distinguished Service Award was given to Manny de Torres, chairman and CEO of Metro Packaging and Imaging.
Bramkamp Printing Holds ‘Wild’ Open House Event
CINCINNATI—To help celebrate its 85th anniversary and the addition of a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 press, Bramkamp Printing put on a “Wild” open house. Held in conjunction with The Cincinnati Zoo and Weyerhaeuser Papers, attendees were treated to a visit with two live Cheetahs, as well as a tour of the facility and lunch.
Western States Envelope & Label of Milwaukee won a Best of Category Badger Award for outstanding achievement in environmentally sound materials in the 6th annual Graphics Excellence Awards. This is a statewide printing competition hosted by the Printing Industries of Wisconsin.
IWCO Direct, Chanhassen, MN, reports that Joseph Morrison has been appointed CFO. Prior to joining IWCO Direct, Morrison served as vice president and CFO for Culligan International in Chicago.
Scott Tufarolo recently joined Highspire, PA-based GANCOM as a graphic artist. GANCOM specializes in graphic services, digital and offset printing, information technology and direct mail services.
Doug Hederman has been named president of Hederman Brothers in Ridgeland, MS. He has been with the company for eight years, serving as executive vice president and director of sales.
Alan Shapiro of LAgraphico in Burbank, CA, has been awarded IPA’s Leonard Holzinger Award. The award was established to honor those individuals who have demonstrated distinguished leadership and who, through IPA, have contributed significantly to the graphic communication industry.
Shirley Ehlert and Brad Brogan have been promoted by Milwaukee-based Visual Systems Inc. (VSI) to serve on the executive committee as director of manufacturing and director of sales, respectively.
Printing Industries Association of Southern California (PIASC) has named Ralph Beas, graphic arts instructor at San Fernando High School, as its 2006 Educator of the Year.
Michele Hanson has joined Baltimore-based Vertis’ marketing department as vice president of strategic sales. She previously was employed by First Data Corp.
RAM Printing, located in East Hampstead, reportedly is the first commercial printing company in the state of New Hampshire to receive Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody Certification from the SmartWood Program of the Rainforest Alliance.
For the second year in a row, a team from Williamson Printing in Dallas won the annual PIA/GATF/SGI Web Press Skills Competition. This year, Ron Rogers and Rudy Padilla took home the top honors. Rogers was also part of the winning team in 2005. The competition was sponsored by MAN Roland and took place during the Web Offset Association’s annual conference in May.
Niles, IL-based The JohnsByrne Co. has appointed Alex Erickson as vice president of sales. He has more than 15 years of experience in the printing industry.
Rapid Solutions Group announced that Paul Valenti is its new CFO. He is based at the company’s headquarters located in Melville, NY. Also, Lyle Sanderson has been named vice president of sales.
Impress Communications, Canoga Park, CA, has named Jim Crowfoot plant manager. He brings 20 years of industry management experience with companies such as RR Donnelley and George Rice & Sons.
Joe Ewers, executive vice president of new business development for World Marketing, Dallas, has been awarded the Leo G. “Bill” Bernheimer Award by the Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association.
Steve Post took top honors for selling more print-related services last year than any other representative within his company’s 750-member sales force. Post works with McKay Press in Midland, MI, one of 70 companies owned by Consolidated Graphics. Recognition was given to Post at Consolidated’s national sales meeting. His annual sales of more than $10 million set an all-time record.
EU Services, of Rockville, MD, hired Mike Frazier to serve as assistant sales manager. Frazier has more than 23 years of printing and direct mail industry experience.
A.B. Data, a Milwaukee-based provider of data services for direct marketers, variable data printing and transactional mail services, has hired Samuel Abbasi as its new sales account executive.
MAR Graphics has completed an addition to its facility outside of St. Louis to accommodate new equipment including a 10-color Muller Martini press, expanded bindery, and digital imaging and mailing operations. The facility now encompasses more than 90,000 square feet.
Wright Graphics in Chatsworth, CA, has hired Carol Geddes as its vice president of sales. She is the former president of Penn Lithographics.
NAPL announced that, effective in the fourth quarter, Robert Whitton will become managing director of its Research & Engineering Council. Whitton is founder and principal of Arellton Group, a consulting firm specializing in operations and supply chain management. He succeeds Ronald Mihills, R&E Council of NAPL managing director, who will be retiring from that role.
Kelly Jones has joined the management team of Dayton, OH-based WorkflowOne as vice president, human resources.
Gary Pawlaczyk has been promoted to senior vice president of sales and marketing at Pictorial Offset in Carlstadt, NJ. Pawlaczyk is a 23-year industry veteran and has been with Pictorial for the past five years as vice president of sales and marketing. In addition, Elinor (Ellie) Tappe has been hired as vice president of business development.
