Globe Litho Installs Press, Commits To ‘Green’ Success
RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ—Globe Lithographing recently installed a new six-color Speedmaster CD 102 with in-line coater, which joins two existing six-color Speedmaster SM 102 presses with aqueous coating and a six-color Speedmaster SM 102 perfector.
The company, which was awarded Chain-of-Custody certification by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) last fall, is also making news for recently signing a contract with Community Energy of Wayne, PA, to purchase 100 percent of its electricity from wind-powered energy.
Original Impressions Impresses Fast Food Royalty at Burger King
MIAMI—Burger King Corp. (BKC), and its purchasing cooperative/supply chain manager Restaurant Services Inc. (RSI), awarded its 2007 Supplier of the Year Award to Original Impressions (OI), a full-service marketing communications company that has been providing graphic design and print services to Burger King since 1982. Today, the firm also provides marketing, merchandising and direct mail services to the mega fast food franchise.
MONTGOMERY—A new four-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 has doubled capacity at Walker Printing since its recent installation.
SANTA FE SPRINGS—Celebrating its 28th year in business, Superprint Lithographics is moving to its new 30,000-square-foot facility on Secura Way. Also new are a five-color Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S press with aqueous coater and extended delivery, and a Kodak Trendsetter 800 III platesetter with Prinergy software.
WATERBURY—The Republican-American purchased a Glunz & Jensen K&F ProVision Alliance punch bender.
WATERFORD—In anticipation of its 100th anniversary next year, the marketing communications firm of Joseph Merritt & Co. has moved its New London operation, Merritt Graphics, into a state-of-the-art facility here. The entrance/lobby has been transformed into an industry store, where more than 150 graphic images—including outdoor scenes, vehicle graphics, cartoon characters, trade show booths and motion graphics displays—depict the many ways customers can market their products.
DEBARY—Browning Communications, one of the largest minority-owned print shops in Florida, recently installed a new four-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52.
JACKSONVILLE—Committed to being the largest quick printer in the area, Raintree Graphics has added a new two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46, which is the fourth QM 46 press in operation at the firm.
BLOOMINGTON—Original Smith Printing, which owns a fleet of Heidelberg perfecting presses, including a pair of 10-color Speedmaster 102 perfectors, recently added another press: a new four-color Printmaster PM 52.
DES PLAINES—The printing assets of Des Plaines Publishing were recently acquired by Des Plaines Printing LLC. Owned by a group of senior management from Des Plaines Publishing, the printing operation serves clients in the financial, newspaper, directory, catalog and book markets.
RICHMOND—The Gannett newspaper Palladium-Item recently purchased a Kodak Trendsetter News 150 platesetter and PREPS software.
LANHAM—Art & Negative Graphics, a woman-owned commercial printer, has added a six-color, 40˝ Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 102 perfector with aqueous coater and a Xerox iGen 3 digital press.
WALDORF—To boost productivity, Beacon Printing recently acquired a new five-color Speedmaster CD 74 with coater from Heidelberg.
MINNEAPOLIS—Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody certification has been awarded to Shapco Printing. In other company news, Shapco recently added a wide-format Mimaki JV5 ink-jet printer.
ROCHESTER—The Post-Bulletin Co. purchased two Kodak Trendsetter News 70 platesetters and Staccato screening, as well as Prinergy Evo and NewsManager workflow systems.
ST. LOUIS PARK—A new division of Anderberg-Lund Printing has been created, and a new digital press has been installed to help boost its capabilities. Anderberg Solutions is now running a new Canon imagePRESS C1, in conjunction with its existing Canon CLC 4000 and IR-550 printers, to produce short-run digital, variable data and e-commerce printed products.
EARTH CITY—After relocating the operations from its Maryland Heights facility, Vertis Communications held a grand opening of its new 23,000-square-foot facility near St. Louis. The new plant houses a wide range of offerings, including comprehensive premedia services and a full-service photography studio.
LEWISTOWN—News-Argus Printing recently purchased a Hasler HJFDR feeder, Hasler HT30 tabber and Hasler HJ3600P ink-jet labeler with dryer/conveyor combination, capable of applying two tabs/one label at 40,000 per hour with a single pass.
LAS VEGAS—A new Kluge HyperFold automatic folder/gluer was installed at Royal Printing, joining other Kluge equipment including a 13x19˝ letterpress.
BURLINGTON—Barton & Cooney, a high-volume printer and direct mail services provider, is adding a 24,000-square-foot production facility in nearby Bordentown, NJ, to help meet its growing fulfillment, packaging services and direct mail businesses. The new plant will also house a redundant data processing center, serving as a disaster recovery operation.
CARLSTADT—Nearly 40 advertising and design agency personnel recently attended a first-ever pressroom seminar at Pictorial Offset titled, “The Pursuit of Quality: How to Read a Press Sheet.”
JERSEY CITY—CGI North America has completed the installation of two new printing presses: a six-color, 16-page Komori System 38S heatset web with combination folder, pattern perforator and glue unit; and an eight-color Komori Lithrone S40 sheetfed press.
NEW YORK CITY—Sheetfed, web and digital printer 1-800-Postcards has purchased its third KBA press, a Genius 52 UV, to produce 3D and lenticular printing. It joins an existing eight-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed perfector and a KBA web press.
ROCHESTER—The American flag that was flown during Operation Iraqi Freedom on a U.S. Marine Corps EA-6B Prowler aircraft, was presented to Express Press, along with a special letter and certificate of appreciation for producing the Expressly Military cruise books for the past five years.
ROCKY MOUNT—A Kluge OmniFold automatic folder/gluer, recently installed at Riverside Printing, is being used to produce a wide range of products from presentation folders to packaging and folding cartons.
DAYTON—WorkflowOne, a leading document and print management provider, has signed a contract with Premier Inc. healthcare alliance to provide document management for all of Premier’s 1,700 member hospitals and 45,000 healthcare sites. The pact is estimated to be worth $300 million over the three-year term of the contract.
TWINSBURG—Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody certification has been awarded to Oliver Printing, a family owned and operated business with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small, local retailers.
WESTERVILLE—Robin Enterprises recently added twin Heidelberg Suprasetter E 105 platesetters with multi-cassette loaders as part of its transition to a PDF/JDF-based workflow. The company produces about 100 plates per day, and sought backup should anything go wrong as part of its customer service commitment.
PORTLAND—A new Goss Sunday 2000 web press system has been installed at Journal Graphics. The four-unit press features gapless technology, Contiweb CS splicer, Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls, PFF 3.2 pinless folder and Omnicon controls.
WAYMART—Two new equipment investments are already paying off for SG Printing in increased productivity and cost savings: a new Kodak Magnus 800 platesetter capable of producing 50 plates per hour; and a new eight-unit Solna D30 coldset web press with four 50˝ Butler splicers and a folder, capable of producing a 64-page signature 2/2.
LAVERGNE—As a leading provider of one-off, demand-based books, Lightning Source has expanded its fleet of HP Indigo digital presses by installing two new 5000 models, which will help ensure the firm’s standard 12-hour turnaround from order to shipment.
AUSTIN—Horizon Printing, a commercial operation that also offers digital prepress and on-demand and variable data printing, purchased a new six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000LX sheetfed press with aqueous and UV coating capabilities.
BOERNE—Lebco Graphics recently installed two new printing presses: a five-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52 with automatic blanket washup, inking unit washup and Prinect Classic Center control console; and a six-color, 40˝ MAN Roland 700 with coater, automated plate loading, and printnet control and networking.
DALLAS—Soon after opening its new CD/DVD Replication Center, VideoPlus acquired a five-color, 28˝ Komori Lithrone offset press with tower coater (NL528C) to print CD/DVD packaging, inserts and marketing materials.
HOUSTON—Ideal Printers has selected Objective Advantage (OA) to integrate its OASymbio production management tools to help automate and streamline their operation from job submission to finished product.
EVERETT—Sound Publishing purchased a Kodak Trendsetter News 100 platesetter, Staccato screening, Prinergy Evo workflow system and PREPS software to print a number of daily and weekly newspapers.
SPOKANE—The Spokesman-Review has inked an agreement with Fujifilm Graphic Systems for two new Krause LS-Jet 170 violet CTP devices, two Krause BlueFin processors and Fujifilm’s LP-NNV violet newspaper plates.
