Standard Opens New Demo Center
ANDOVER, MA—Standard Finishing Systems has christened a 15,000-square-foot National Customer Demonstration and Training Center as part of a year-long renovation of its corporate headquarters. The facility is equipped with a complete range of feeding and finishing solutions, and is staffed by an on-site team of paper handling and postpress specialists.
The center features nearly every Standard solution set up and ready to run, including Horizon perfect binders, three-knife trimmers, floor-model folders and saddlestitchers; Hunkeler unwinders, rewinders, rotary cutters, stackers, plow folders and fan folders for continuous-feed digital printers; and KAS short-run mail inserting solutions.
But, more than just a demo center, the site is equipped with seven dedicated service training classrooms for Standard dealers, third-party service providers and customers. Visitors can also bring sample jobs to be tested and evaluated to determine the most efficient finishing method.
“This investment allows our best customers and prospects to see their own applications run in a live production environment,” notes David Reny, executive vice president.
Diecutter Supports Company’s Growth
KAUFMAN, TX—ABOX Packaging has replaced an aging off-line blanking system with a Heidelberg Dymatrix CSB (cutting/stripping/blanking) diecutter. The move helps the folding carton manufacturer save time previously spent transporting materials to and from its existing diecutters, which, in turn, has helped increase its productivity by more than 25 percent.
“We pick our targets carefully and seek out the best long-term investments we can find,” says Keith Thompson, president. “We spent more than a year researching the new Dymatrix and felt it was the most substantial piece of equipment available for the money.”
Reindl Announces New Location
GERMANTOWN, WI—After 10 years at its Glendale (WI) location, Reindl Bindery has relocated to a new, 112,000-square-foot building here.
“This is an exciting time for us,” says David Reindl, president. “Our new, larger facility will allow us to expand and grow into new markets. It will allow us the opportunity to be more competitive and continue to provide the outstanding service our customers have come to expect.”
The company has 53 employees and specializes in hardcover, softcover, mechanical binding, cover wrapping and lining, along with the mounting of media components for CDs and DVDs.
JDF/JMF Workflow Boosts Productivity
HAUPPAUGE, NY—Muller Martini, HIFLEX and SoftSolutions collaborated during an open house recently at Muller Martini’s headquarters here to demonstrate the seamless integration of MIS functions and postpress machines within an open architecture environment. Three display monitors illustrated the JDF/JMF-based postpress workflow using a Muller Primera E140 saddlestitcher with its CONNEX digital workflow system, tied in with SoftSolutions’ FLEX-OS data integration platform and HIFLEX’s MIS system.
The demonstration showed how product specifications can be exchanged electronically in real time, while also providing more accurate job costing reports, improved job planning, automated makereadies, reduced human error and better waste elimination.

Acquiring a Zund G3 digital diecutter has helped Egg Harbor Twp., NJ-based Print Art speed production with its ability to cut materials up to 2˝ thick.
Printers Finishing, a woman-owned print finisher based in Baltimore, has added a Kluge EHD Series 14x22˝ press for foil stamping, embossing and diecutting.
A second Heidelberg Stahlfolder B 20 has been delivered to Vital Printing in West Palm Beach, FL.
Rasch Graphic Services, Houston, recently celebrated its 40th year of continuous operation.
Full-service print finisher Madison Cutting Die, based in Madison, WI, added a Kluge OmniFold folder/gluer equipped with a friction feeder for continuous bottom feeding and flipgate for crossfolds.
