It’s All About Decreasing Press Makeready Time CINCINNATI—SpringDot, a fourth-generation, general commercial printer, recently installed a six-color Komori Lithrone S40 with coating capabilities. “We have a consistent demand for high-quality, short-run work, so the fast makereadies offered by the Komori press are ideal,” notes Joshua Deutsch, president and CEO of SpringDot.
Speedmaster XL 105 Trifecta Makes Moquin Press Fast and Flexible
BELMONT, CA—Moquin Press acquired its first Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 in 2005, followed by another XL 105 in 2006. The trade printer recently purchased its third XL 105, this one a six-color model equipped with four interdeck UV dryers, Instant Start, DryStar Advanced, Color Assistant and Instant Gate.
ARIZONA TEMPE—Ironwood Lithographers, a Consolidated Graphics company, reports it is the first printer in Arizona to achieve GRACoL G7 master certification through IDEAlliance.
CALIFORNIA
CITY OF INDUSTRY—To print on 40-pt. board and branch into packaging, Pacific Graphics recently purchased a Mitsubishi Diamond V3000LX sheetfed press equipped with SimulChanger automated plate changers and the Diamond Color Navigator color adjustment system.
GRASS VALLEY—The Union, a Swift Communications publication, has become the first newspaper in North America to install an Agfa Advantage N-SL computer-to-plate system. All Swift printing facilities have now converted to Agfa-based CTP workflows.
SANTA CLARA—PrintPapa recently introduced wholesale trade printing services to the graphic arts community in the San Francisco Bay area. To offer these services, the company installed a Presstek 34 DI, Xerox DocuColor 5000, off-line UV coater and a Morgana Autocreaser.
FLORIDA
MAITLAND—Moving into full-size printing, Abbott Printing recently purchased a four-color Heidelberg XL 105 press with coater, a Suprasetter 105 thermal platesetter and an automated Stahlfolder TH 82 folder.
ORLANDO—C&S Printing has committed to a new four-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 with an Anicolor inking unit for its short-run work. The press can print up to 30,000 sph in letter-sized format.
SARASOTA—Coastal Printing is reporting success after serving as the first U.S. installation of Mitsubishi’s V3000 sheetfed press series. In December, Coastal installed a six-color Diamond V3000LS with tower coater.
GEORGIA
ATLANTA—Complete Printing Services, an offset and digital printer for more than 20 years, has changed its name to Fuse Graphics. The new monicker is intended to reflect the company’s new cross-media capabilities.
IDAHO
IDAHO FALLS—The Post Register began installing a 32-couple, 21? cutoff, 35? Goss Magnum press in February as part of an upgrade program it began in 2006 when it installed a shaftless Goss Magnapak inserting system.

DOWNERS GROVE—Versatile Card Technology has installed a 10-color Mitsubishi Diamond 3000TP Tandem Perfector, a 40? perfecting press with UV coating capabilities.
IOWA
DUBUQUE—Quebecor World has added a continuous-feed Océ VarioStream 9210 printing system; PRISMAproduction software; and Lasermax pre- and post-processing systems.
KANSAS
FT. SCOTT—WardKraft Commercial/ShortRun Div. has added its second HP Indigo 3050 digital press. The Indigo 3050 has a 12x18? sheet size, which allows distributors to offer customers full bleed, 11x17? artwork at 812 dpi in quantities up to 2,000 pieces.
KENTUCKY
BOWLING GREEN—Shutterbug Photo Mall has installed a Xerox iGen4 digital press to add full-color photo books, calendars and greeting cards to its portfolio of photo-based offerings.
MARYLAND
LAUREL—Go To Digital recently replaced two existing digital presses with one Canon imagePRESS C7000VP digital press.
MASSACHUSETTS
NORTH ADAMS—Excelsior Printing’s recent installation of a six-color Roland 706 press with coater is expected to support the company’s sustainability initiatives.
MICHIGAN
DETROIT—Wolverine Solutions Group has boosted productivity by using Océ Document Designer Advanced software to automate variable data and one-to-one personalized documents creation.
ROYAL OAK—ArborOakland Group has added a Kodak Nexpress S2500 digital press with in-line coating capabilities.
MINNESOTA
MINNEAPOLIS—Bureau of Engraving has purchased a Pamarco Sentinel ink dispensing system for its KBA press.
ROCHESTER—Installing a six-color, UV ink-jet Anapurna M wide-format printer, from Agfa Graphics, allows Davies Printing to print right onto a variety of rigid substrates. Its UV inks are resistant to fading, eliminating the need for laminating.
MISSOURI
ST. LOUIS—A Xerox iGen4 digital press, Nuvera 288 EA perfecting production system and a variety of FreeFlow tools are expected to help The Gabriel Group automate complex tasks in its production process.
NEW JERSEY
CHERRY HILL—As of February 1, FrontEnd Graphics is located here at 1951 Old Cuthbert Rd., Ste. 414. The new space is expected to help accommodate its growing digital printing business and fulfillment capabilities.
PENNINGTON—Direct Group, a direct marketing solutions provider, plans to use a $446,000 New Jersey Department of Labor grant to expand the technical and leadership skills of its more than 900 employees.
NORTH CAROLINA
CHARLOTTE—A six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102-6+LX sheetfed press, Stalhlfolder TH 82 folder and Kodak Prinergy prepress workflow system are now in operation at Loftin & Co.
OHIO
AKRON—InfoCision Management needed to support its new digital printing and mail operation. To do so, it installed two Kodak Nexpress S3000 digital production color presses and a Kodak Nexpress M700 digital color press.
PENNSYLVANIA
PLYMOUTH—Unigraphic Color has installed a Domino L-Series thermal ink-jet printer. Unigraphic’s Domino installation also includes a Pitney Bowes feeder and Profold tabber, which serve the business’ needs for a variety of direct mail addressing applications.
TEXAS
HOUSTON—Page/International Communications, a division of Nationwide Graphics/Premier Print Organization, recently earned its G7 Master Printer certification.
WASHINGTON
SEATTLE—To convert to CTP, The Seattle Times installed two Krause LS Jet 300 platesetters and Blue Fin plate processors from Fujifilm.
WISCONSIN
MENOMONEE FALLS—Inland Graphics has completed its fourth year of no lost work time due to job-related injury or illness. The company attributes its success to the efforts of its employees, as well as equipment maintenance and a detailed employee training/safety program.
SUN PRAIRIE—Royle Printing’s new 57? Goss Sunday 2000 full-web press is now operational. It is equipped with a Vits sheeter, Ecocool dryer and a Recmi horizontal stacker. It also features closed-loop color control and computerized register and ink presets.
