10-Color Perfector with Double Coaters Showcased
ALLEN, TX—Sheetfed and web offset printer ColorDynamics and Komori America executives hosted approximately 50 Komori customers and prospects, representing some 20 companies, on January 30 to demonstrate the shop’s new 10-color Lithrone S40P convertible perfector with two-sided coating capabilities. At 100 feet in length, it is said to be the longest sheetfed press Komori has manufactured.
According to ColorDynamics President Chuck Chalifoux, the $40 million operation purchased the versatile press due to its ability to print conventional, hybrid or UV jobs; its overall 10-color capabilities for producing high-end work; and increasing client demands for quicker turn times.
Three separate jobs were run during the event, including a 10-color job with the same image on the front and tail edge of the sheet. That was followed by a press run applying hybrid inks and UV coatings on both sides in one pass. Finally, the press was changed over to output two-sided sheets incorporating conventional inks and an aqueous coating.
ColorDynamics also has a new six-color Lithrone on order. The two new presses, in combination with its existing sheetfed arsenal, will give the printer greater flexibility to more quickly output conventional, hybrid or UV printing jobs with various coatings, noted William Ehrlich, VP of sales.
ColorDynamics employs 170 workers in its 130,000-square-foot, suburban Dallas facility. The company primarily produces annual reports, in-line direct mail pieces and high-end catalogs, as well as trading and game cards. Full-service capabilities include prepress, offset printing, postpress, packaging, mailing, pick-and-pack, warehousing and fulfillment—all under one roof.
