INDUSTRY NEWS SGP Announces First Green Printers
PITTSBURGH—The Printing Industries of America reported that six of its members have been recognized as the first Sustainable Green Printers by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership: Fineline Printing Group, Indianapolis; Pictura Graphics, Minneapolis; The John Roberts Co., Minneapolis; The Pratt Corp., Indianapolis; Monroe Litho, Rochester, NY; and Meisel, Carrollton, TX.
The SGP verification process requires a commitment to continuous improvement in a company’s sustainability, such as reducing its environmental footprint and cutting operational costs, by utilizing and embracing the approaches identified in the SGP Partnership.

Phoenix-based O’Neil Printing has made several eco-announcements. First, the company has produced a new self-promo piece titled “O’Neil Prints Green,” pictured here, that states: “This brochure is proof of it...” Inside the brochure, simple illustrations and quick-read copy highlight the company’s green printing process from start to finish.
Also, O’Neil reports that it has -reduced its carbon footprint with the addition of a Mutoh ValueJet wide-format printer, which prints with vegetable-based inks. The printer has also switched from petroleum-based diesel fuel to biodiesel fuel in its delivery trucks.
Now Certified
The following companies have received chain-of-custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and/or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

• Monroe Litho, Rochester, NY: SFI (already FSC certified).

Finch Paper announced that it -recently earned SFI chain-of-custody certification. All Finch Premium Blend, Fine and Casa Opaque products are FSC chain-of-custody certified, and all fiber utilized by Finch Paper across its product line is certified by the SFI program.
