New Digs for PartnerPrinting
RIVERSIDE, CA—Colour Concepts, which does business as PartnerPrinting.com, is hoping to make a splash this month when it opens its new 124,000-square-foot headquarters here, with the centerpiece of the new digs being an eight-color Mitsubishi Diamond 3000TP sheetfed offset perfector with dual coaters. The investment is aimed at bolstering the company's position as a full-service, direct-to-trade wholesale printing organization.
Saltus Closes its Doors
WORCESTER, MA—Saltus Press, a cold web, sheetfed and digital printer, has closed its doors following a 104-year run, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Employees were informed of the closure on Aug. 5. The company employed about 160 people as recently as 2009, according to the newspaper.
JohnsByrne Unveils Branch
NILES, IL—JohnsByrne Co., a national print and packaging solutions provider based here, has opened a West Coast office in Burbank, CA, to serve the southern California marketplace. The office includes sales, project management, structural design, prepress and color management. It is led by Dave Lemos, partner, JohnsByrne California.
Freeport Orders Web Press
FREEPORT, OH—Backed by a $2.2 million loan from the state of Ohio and other financial institutions, Freeport Press has placed an order for a Komori System 38S web offset press, according to the Times Reporter. The heatset press will enable Freeport to add, over the next seven years, as many as 40 new positions to its roster of 150 employees. It joins an existing Komori System 38S, and the presses will be set up to run in tandem. Freeport also recently installed a 24-unit Kolbus perfect binder.
MSP Opens Jersey Facility
NEW CANAAN, CT—MSP Digital Marketing has opened a 25,000–-– square-foot digital communications facility in Rockaway Township, NJ. The new company will incorporate key assets of the former DigitalXPress LLC and will focus on providing cross-media digital marketing solutions. MSP Digital will retain the DigitalXPress brand.
New 81˝ Press for Meyers
MINNEAPOLIS—Retail marketing solutions print provider Meyers has purchased a new six-color, 81˝ KBA Rapida 205 sheetfed press with coater and UV capabilities as the cornerstone of a $10 million capex initiative. The Rapida 205, which will significantly bolster Meyers' production capabilities, is slated to be ready for action by next spring. The press represents the second phase of an overall $16 million investment by the company.
Zenger Nets Boncraft Assets
BUFFALO, NY—Zenger Group, a printing and marketing communications services provider, has acquired the assets of Boncraft Inc., combining two of the city's longtime, family-owned printers. Zenger Group will retain the Boncraft name with Zenger Group co-branding, and all 55 Boncraft workers will be offered Zenger Group employment in what is expected to be a relatively seamless transition.
Car Crashes Merrill Office
TEWSKSBURY, MA—A student attending a trade school here plowed her car through the side of the building that housed the school, also punching a hole through the wall of a Merrill Corp. office. According to The Boston Globe, the driver's vehicle burst through the frame of a window and traveled 100 feet into the first floor. The driver was treated for minor injuries.
A.F.L. Web Workers Unionize
SEACAUCUS, NJ—Employees at A.F.L. Web Printing here voted to unionize by a 16-10 count, according to The Jersey Journal. The employees will join Local 1-L of the Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The chapter now represents 28 A.F.L. Web Printing employees, the paper said. The union informed A.F.L. Web Printing in May that employees had created a collective bargaining committee.
McAdams Hit with Fines
OAK CREEK, WI—The Wisconsin Attorney General's office has settled a case against McAdams Graphics involving violations of the state's air pollution laws, according to Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. The company has agreed to pay $40,000 in total forfeitures and penalties. The civil complaint alleges violations of Wisconsin's air pollution laws stemming from the company's air permit to operate its lithographic presses.
