Print Worker Forgets Baby, Infant Dies in Car
LUFKIN, TX—An employee of Story-Wright Printing & Office Supply forgot to drop his infant daughter off at a daycare and left the child in his car for most of the work day on Aug. 24. The baby was found dead nearly seven hours later, an apparent victim of prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, according to KTRE-TV Channel 9.
The TV station, citing the Lufkin Police investigation, reported that the father left home with his two children that morning and dropped a son off at school before going to work at Story-Wright around 8:30 a.m. He neglected to drop off the 4-month-old daughter at daycare, and the man found his baby still strapped in her child safety seat. Lufkin Fire and EMS arrived to find the child had died.
Police and Child Protective Services were to conduct a parallel investigation, according to KTRE. An autopsy was scheduled to confirm the cause of death but, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees that day, the preliminary presumption is that the little girl succumbed to the heat.
Printing Impressions magazine is not releasing the names of the victim or her father, because criminal charges have not been filed.
