Quad/Graphics Shuts Down Atlanta, Dickson, TN, Plants

SUSSEX, WI—Quad/Graphics revealed that it is closing its direct mail facility on McCall Drive in Atlanta on or before Feb. 1 and will shutter its Dickson, TN, retail insert plant on or before March 15. Both moves were announced by the printer in letters sent out to suppliers.

In one letter, David Blais, executive vice president of global procurement and platform strategy, told suppliers that the Atlanta facility's presses were in need of "significant, costly upgrades to remain productive and competitive." The plant itself carries an expensive lease, is 50 years old and is much too big for Quad/Graphics' purposes, he added.
