Quad Shutting Down Direct Mail Division in Virginia
SUSSEX, WI—As part of its ongoing integration strategy, Quad/Graphics Inc. announced plans to cease production at its direct mail division facility in Fredericksburg, VA, by the end of next January. The move will leave 300 full- and part-time workers without jobs.
“Today’s announcement is part of our ongoing plan to integrate operations following our acquisition of Worldcolor and will further strengthen the efficiency and competitiveness of our manufacturing platform,” said Joel Quadracci, chairman, president and CEO of Quad/Graphics. “We have a clear vision for the future of our company and are moving aggressively to implement plans that will benefit our customers and drive value for our shareholders.”
In another cutback, the company announced it is shedding 400 of the 500 jobs at its Mt. Morris, IL, facility. The cuts will begin in January and be completed by April, the Ogle County News reported. The newspaper cited work lost to competitors as being a driving force behind the decision. Mt. Morris was part of the Worldcolor acquisition.
The Fredericksburg plant, which is part of Quad/Graphics’ direct mail division called QuadDirect, will begin stepping down operations immediately. The facility encompasses approximately 165,000 square feet. Customer work and most equipment will be consolidated into other QuadDirect facilities.
The company says it will assist impacted employees in finding new jobs, including those available at other Quad/Graphics locations.
