Quad’s New Goss Sunday Web Press Offers Direct Marketers Increased Targeting
SUSSEX, WI—May 23, 2011—Quad/Graphics’ new Goss Sunday 2000 web press will provide marketers with new inline direct-mail solutions that will condense cycle times and improve one-to-one targeting. This investment represents the latest phase of the organization’s three-year, $40 million capital spending plan for its direct-mail division—QuadDirect.
“Marketers are challenged with finding timely, relevant and engaging ways to increase the return on their media spend,” said Steve Jaeger, president of QuadDirect. “With this investment, we’re reinforcing the power of print by providing the marketplace with new targeted, cost-effective options that can be deployed quickly as key elements of multichannel marketing campaigns.”
Quad/Graphics recently completed the installation of the six-unit press at its QuadDirect production facility and headquarters in Pewaukee, WI. The press is enhanced with leading-edge automated quality control systems engineered and manufactured by QuadTech, Quad/Graphics’ subsidiary dedicated to print technology development. The press strengthens QuadDirect’s platform of web, laser and digital printing that is part of its single source data-through-delivery service offerings to help marketers drive their top-line growth.
Through QuadDirect’s integrated data workflow and inline inkjet technology, marketers can increase their customer response rates by customizing their entire mailpiece to each individual recipient with personalized content and messaging. Each mailpiece can be personalized in-line on the press with several one-color inkjet units (up to 600 dpi) in combination with a four-color (CMYK) inkjet unit, all at the same time.
Through the use of variable inkjet, plate changes can be completely eliminated. Furthermore, with printer’s just-in-time data strategy, marketers can identify undeliverable recipients on their mailing lists just prior to addressing the mailpiece inline, thereby minimizing cost-per-response.
“The Sunday 2000 press supports many successful customized mailpiece formats currently used in the market such as 5.5x8.5˝ and 9x6˝, providing QuadDirect clients with flexibility and a unique marketing advantage,” Jaeger said.
This press will give marketers the ability to make their mailpieces stand out in the mail through inline specialty design applications that include diecutting, perforating, gluing and custom folding. UV and varnish coatings can also be applied inline to enhance or protect mailpieces. Marketers will also benefit from faster makereadies, less paper waste and condensed production cycles made possible by the press’ “cells” format. This format makes it easy to reconfigure the inline finishing system and match the order of inline applications required for a particular mailpiece. Flexible press components, such as die cutters and plow towers, can be quickly interchanged from one job to the next.
