Quad/Graphics to Close Brown Printing Woodstock, IL, Facility
WOODSTOCK, IL—June 19, 2014—Quad/Graphics plans to close a former Brown Printing facility on 11595 McConnell Road here before the end of summer, resulting in the loss of about 550 employees, according to the Northwest Herald. The newspaper reported that this is the only one of Brown's three facilities to close.
The action is in addition to the closure of Quad's St. Cloud, MN, operation, which employs 280. That shutdown is also slated for this summer.
Claire Ho, director of corporate communications for Quad/Graphics, told the Northwest Herald that the move to close the Woodstock facility is related to the integration process. "We’re moving forward with integration plans following the recent acquisition of Brown Printing Company." She said the company will offer relocation opportunities to employees.
"Certainly the city of Woodstock is saddened by the news that Quad/Graphics has developed plans to restructure certain operations at the Woodstock facility," Woodstock Mayor Brian Sager told the newspaper. "Anytime a business of the stature of Brown Printing/Quad/Graphics makes a decision to restructure...with this number of employees, that is going to have a detrimental impact upon the economic situation within the larger community."
