ROCHESTER, NY—A Sunday 2000 web offset press consigned to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and its Printing Applications Lab (PAL) is being dismantled and sold after 10 years of service, according to the school's student-run Reporter magazine.
The Reporter quoted Bill Garno, director of the lab, as citing several reasons behind the School of Print Media's decision to unplug the venerable press, including the onset of the digital printing age. Additionally, the research clients that previously funded its operation dwindled, and the behemoth press was taking up valuable real estate.
