RR Donnelley to Close TOPS Products Distribution Center in Kentucky, Laying Off 91
GEORGETOWN Ky.—September 1, 2015—RR Donnelley has announced that it will be permanently closing its Trade Offset Printing Services (TOPS) Products distribution center based here, and will lay off 91 employees. TOPS, which was founded in 1953, and specialized in printing custom and standard business forms, became part of RR Donnelley in 2004. The center distributed office files and binders, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
RR Donnelley reported the plant closure and the layoffs to Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather and the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, the newspaper said. According to Prather, a rapid-response team is being deployed to help Georgetown employees apply for unemployment insurance and to find new jobs.
According to the newspaper, other employers in Scott County have been notified by a list supplied to the state by the company, that 91 employees—that includes 29 hoist operators and 43 picker/packers—will be available/and are seeking employment.
No employees will have "bumping rights" to displace other employees working for the company elsewhere, explained Cindy Fleming, vice president of human resources for RR Donnelley in Chicago.
According to the Herald-Leader, RR Donnelley purchased Cardinal Brands for $130 million in 2007. Two years later, the Cardinal, TOPS, Adams and Globe-Weis brands were combined to form the TOPS Products family of brands.
